Dublin Grizzell Middle School
January 15th
Principal's Message
It was nice to have the kids back in the building and actually seeing a little sunshine this week. I hope that everyone is settling in once again this semester and any issues regarding schedules and bussing has been worked out. It is hard to believe that our 8th graders will start the processes of scheduling for high school starting the week on January 25th. Our 6th and 7th grade students will follow them in the months to come. As you start to work through course options with your student, please don't hesitate to reach out to your guidance counselor, or myself, as I have been part of the high school experience the past 7 years.
Please enjoy the three day weekend and be sure to look at the information below as it relates to weekly schedules for this upcoming week and next.
With gratitude,
Andy
"However much we are affected by the things of the world, however deeply they may stir and stimulate us, they become human for us only when we can discuss them with our fellows. . . .We humanize what is going on in the world and in ourselves only by speaking of it, and in the course of speaking of it we learn to be human". - philosopher Hannah Arendt

This is also part of our studies on the creation of a new federal city known as Washington, D.C. (George Washington's administration). Students will also learn the basic layout of the city and where MLK Memorial is in relation to other important places to prepare for the presidential inauguration on January 20th.

- Students will be reading "I Have a Dream" and "What is Your Life's Blueprint," two of MLK's speeches. Then they will analyze his point of view and purpose as a writer of those speeches.
- Students did a thinking routine (notice/wonder) with an image from MLK's "I Have A Dream" speech and students shared their thinking on Peardeck.
- Students listened to an excerpt of this famous speech and students created a Jamboard with words describing MLK.
