Pedagogical Discussion Series - What does Multiple Perspectives Look like?
Dear colleagues,
I hope you have already booked your calendar for our upcoming AbFab pedagogical discussion series for all BA faculty. Over lunch or dinner, we really look forward to seeing you very soon and resuming our collegial conversation.
For this occasion, as most of you know, we will be focusing on the BA learning objective that cultivates the ability to understand issues from multiple perspectives. Before we meet please take a moment to watch a brief TED Talk in which Nigerian novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie explores “The Danger of the Single Story,” that is, the warped notions that arise from viewing life's complexities through a single lens and from stereotyping. Even if you have seen this talk before, please check it out again, and as you watch consider this question: What is it that you value in the ability to understand issues from multiple perspectives? This will be the starting point for what we expect will be a lively conversation that reaches from syllabus construction and development of assignments into role modeling in the classroom and managing discussions.
