NEWS & NOTES
Our vision should be known by all. In breaking this down, our learning environment will be:
- Positive- set the tone in our classrooms by building relationships and reinforcing positive behavior
- Engaging- instruction will be interactive and driven by student needs. This means intentional planning through posted I CAN statements aligned to daily lessons.
- Rigorous- Our instruction needs to be challenging and aligned to standards. Deconstructing standards into skills and teaching how to apply the skills is the end game. Critical thinkers are the desired outcome.
Shout outs for the week:
- THANK YOU Related Arts Team for your support since we have been down a person in the Media Center!!
- SHOUT OUT to Ms. Bonner for taking on more and having an AWESOME attitude about it!!!
- Third Grade Team- THANK YOU for continuing to push your students AND keeping them balanced as they get ready for IREAD 3 next week. AWESOME Boot Camp going on!!!
- THANK YOU Ms. Pena for all the home visits to find our students and parents!!
We will be completing IREAD 3 testing for our 3rd Grade students next week. Please see the schedule on the When and Where to be There Section. Ms. Delbridge, Ms. Vogelsang, and Ms. Koch will be supporting this testing, so please plan for them not to be at their normal locations in the morning.
Our Instructional Focus for our return from Spring Break will be as follows:
K-2: Guided Reading, particularly the teacher table. Emphasis will be on students spending most of their time in text, practicing fluency and answering comprehension questions. We must push our little Cardinals to grow in their reading skills to better prepare them for the upper grades!!! ELA PLC's will focus on our TRC data and how we are growing students day by day.
3-6: ISTEP Part II prep. This section accounts for more than half of our students total score. Emphasis on them preparing to answer multiple choice questions with multiple answers or technology enhanced items. How are we going to re-mediate and enrich our critical standards?? PLC's will focus on data and our planning for this instruction.
The weather is warming and the students are getting anxious for Spring Break...as are some of us! Let's make sure to maintain structure and consistency in our instructional day. This includes providing meaningful instruction at all times. Videos are not permitted unless during the following times: indoor recess, lunch, or short clips that hook, reinforce, or help connect students to your content. Videos/movies are not place holders in our day.
Speaking of the anxiety of break....make sure to consciously interact with our students at a 4:1 ratio of positives to negatives. This means to reinforce the good more than acknowledge the bad. We need to make sure our students realize we see the good they do daily...and help to break the negative attention cycle some of them are stuck in. We get the behaviors we pay the most attention to.
Our "Taste of Haughville" Family Event will be held on Thursday, March 16th from 5:30-7:00 pm. This will be an opportunity for our families to experience the Haughville neighborhood (food and resources) and celebrate literacy. Please see the sign up sheet in the front office to volunteer to help out!
The Cardinal Cash Bash will be held on Friday afternoon. Ms. Fosnow and the PBIS Team will be finalizing details and will send the information out on Monday.
