Edition 5 - Week of 9/30/19
Leadership Corner
Next Week is Hawk Walk Week!
What is Hawk Walk?
Hawk Walk is one of NVCS's biggest fundraisers. Hawk Walk is a walk-a-thon, where students can get donations per lap that they complete, or flat donations from family. There are prize rewards for the different levels of fundraising. The funds raised are put towards various needs throughout the year. In past years the funds from Hawk Walk have gone towards playground equipment, technology, kilns, instruments, and much more. Funds raised directly impact student learning and help to ensure that NVCS has the ability to provide the best education possible to every student who walks through our door.
How can you help as a parent/guardian?
1) Donate. This is PTO’s biggest fundraiser of the year. The money earned will go toward the remaining cost of the playground of the grade 4-8 campus, as well updating the K-3 campus playground. Students will receive a donation sheet and envelope to bring home. Any amount donated is appreciated.
2) Help your student fundraise! Fundraising for this event helps students get excited about how many laps they can get. Family and friends are very engaged in walk-a-thons and encourage this healthy, fun fundraiser by helping students reach their fundraising goal by offering a per lap donation, or a flat fee. Family members from near and far can help your student hit their prize goal.

3) Volunteer. Hawk Walk day is one of the funnest days for parents to volunteer on campus and make lasting memories with their students at NVCS. Volunteer. Please contact elarkins@nvcs.school if you are interested in volunteering.
4) Buy a $5 poster and decorate it to support your student before and during the walk. Return your finished poster board to NVCS on the Monday of Spirit Week, and PTO will hang it up on the fence (weather permitting), or inside the hallways for students to admire and see your support. Afterwards, the students can take them home.

Technology Use at Home
As a reminder, NVCS student computers and user accounts are monitored by the school for security, safety and behavioural purposes. This is particularly important to keep in mind if your student accesses their NVCS Google G Suite for Education account through the Chrome Web Browser at home. If a student's account is signed into the Chrome Web Browser, any activity on that account is visible and accessible to both the school and the student. Student accounts should only be used for school purposes.
To ensure other family members are not working through an NVCS Google G Suite for Education account in Chrome, please use the following Google article to create separate profiles within Chrome.
