Principally Speaking

The week went well at DCMS! We are plugging right along to the end of the third quarter.

Next week is a busy week with our second eLearning Day taking place on Thursday, March 5th. Students will not physically come to the building that day but will complete learning and activities through Schoology. Teachers will have office hours from 8:15 - 9:15 AM and from 12 - 1 PM to answer any questions that students or parents may have.

Then on Friday, March 6, 8th-grade students will be taking a field trip to Wayne Township's Area 31. We are very excited about our students learning about future careers. This information will help students to determine potential career paths in a trade or vocation as opposed to the popular belief that all students have to go to college to be successful. Options are always good.

Also, we are quickly approaching the end of quarter 3 which will be next Friday, March 6. Grades will be posted for parent and student viewing on Monday, March 9th at 3:30 PM.

Have an excellent weekend! It is a pleasure to serve you and your students.

Navigating the rocky road of girls’ friendships

Parents feel anguish, too, as their daughters negotiate the social minefield of popular girls and other cliques.

PACE Now at The Middle School

Great news from our before and after school program PACE - our 5th and 6th grade students who attend PACE after school are now staying at the middle school! These students enjoy an afternoon snack, get time outside when the weather allows, or play games inside. They also get homework time, with staff available to help if needed! These students can stay with PACE staff until 6 p.m. after school.

If you are interested in having your child attend our fun (and convenient!) PACE program, please contact our PACE Director Mitzi Dennison at 317-745-2131 ext 4007 or mdennison@danville.k12.in.us. Thank you!

Sports Eligibility

If your child is interested in track, he or she cannot have any F's on a report card for the third nine weeks, which is the grading period we are in now. Track is open to any 6th, 7th, or 8th grade girl or boy. For seventh and eighth grade football, seventh and eighth-grade volleyball and 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade cross country, the fourth nine weeks determine eligibility.

Nutrition Club

The Nutrition Club provides supplemental weekend food for children at North, South and the Middle School each Friday during the school year. We all struggle at some point. The goal of this program is to ease a bit of the struggle. You are welcome to sign-up at any point during the school year. The food will be sent home in a plastic bag that can fit inside a school backpack or be carried. You only complete one form per family. List all of your children that you would like to participate. Each child in your family will receive their own cinch sack or bag on Fridays throughout the school year. This program is the result of the generosity of the Danville community!
