Crow Island Parent Newsletter

April 17, 2023

Dear Crow Island Families,

Last week our 3rd and 4th grade students completed the Illinois Assessment of Readiness. Our students did a great job staying focused, working hard, and putting in their best effort. We still have a lot to accomplish over the next two months of school!

I want to bring your attention to three upcoming items this week. First, we are celebrating Earth Week and have some ways to participate below. Second, Dr. Tess has sent a survey out to families and you can find that below. Your input is important as we look to continue to adjust over the next year. Lastly, we are also starting to think about creating homerooms for the 23-24 school year. Linked below is a survey for parents to fill out to provide any input. We appreciate your collaboration.

Have a great week!

To view more information on each themed day, click here.

Crow Island will be partnering with SWALCO (Solid Waste Agency of Lake County) to collect used shoes during Earth Week. Bring used shoes, in almost any condition, to school from April 17-21 and they will be collected during drop off and throughout the day. Shoes should be tied together with the laces or rubber banded if there are no laces. PLEASE NO: moldy or wet shoes, shoes in pieces or with missing soles, winter boots, rollerblades/skates, or ice skates. Contact Ms. Maneck with any questions mindimaneck@winnetka36.org

Parent Input on Placement:

We are starting to think of class placement for next year. If you would like to share information about some unique aspects of your child’s learning styles or academic/social concerns that need to be considered then you will complete the form below. Please note that specific teacher requests will not be honored. Thank you for trusting our professional judgment as we create wonderful learning experiences for every Crow Island student: Parent Input Form 23-24.

Skokie Parent Input Form

In the coming weeks, parents and 4th grade teachers will have an opportunity to share insights regarding student learning styles, interests, and personalities to help inform student placement. Teachers will meet personally with principal Michelle Cooney to share insights. Parents have an opportunity to share input in writing through this form. In person placement meetings with parents are unable to be held due to time constraints.

You can learn more about the transition to Skokie through this newsletter from Michelle Cooney the principal at Skokie: Transition to 5th Grade.

Working in Winnetka 36:

Winnetka 36 is always looking for great candidates when there are openings and we appreciate referrals encouraging them to apply. Here’s a link to our current openings: https://www.applitrack.com/winnetka36/onlineapp/default.aspx

We also get questions about the necessary steps on how to become a substitute teacher and thought we would share how to do that on the bottom of the document: https://www.isbe.net/Documents/how-become-sub-teacher.pdf
