District Assembly
On the morning of Tuesday, September 6th all of our students will be walking to Mountain Home High School to participate in an assembly featuring Jeremy Anderson.
"As a youngster, Jeremy experienced many academic and social challenges that led to failing classes and the abuse of alcohol and drugs. During his motivational speeches, he shares what changed his worldview, who embraced him, and what altered his life choices. Incorporating many of the same “Next Level” strategies for change, he not only received a high school diploma but also obtained a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree. Jeremy’s passion and life's work are to help students and teachers become the best version of themselves."
First Quarter Midterm
Even though it feels like the school year just started, we are on the cusp of the midterm for the first quarter. First quarter midterm grades will be available through Canvas on Monday, September 12th. Should you have questions about your student’s grades, please contact their teacher directly.
Before and After School Program
We are happy to announce that, through the award of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant, we will be providing onsite before and afterschool activities for all interested fifth and sixth grade students. Beginning Monday, September 12th we will begin offering 23 different clubs your student can participate in Monday through Thursday. Homecoming Week
MHHS homecoming week is almost upon us and to show our support of our high school, we will be participating in some of the dress up days throughout the week (September 19th - 23rd) and viewing the parade on September 23rd. The dress up days are as follows:
- Monday, September 19th - College Gear
- Tuesday, September 20th - Beach Day
- Wednesday, September 21st - Winter Wonderland
- Thursday, September 22nd - Wear Yellow in Support of Kindness (this is not the same as the high school)
- Friday, September 23rd - Wear Your Black and Orange
Students are encouraged to participate, but are not expected to. They are, however, expected to follow the established dress code.
Go Tigers!
Other Information
Contact Information
Please take a moment to review your contact information in PowerSchool via your Parent Portal and ensure we have the most up to date information in the event we need to contact you or your student’s emergency contacts. We have had more incidents than I can count recently of not being able to reach parents and guardians when needed because of bad phone numbers in the system. Please also make sure to update this information in both the Update Demographics and Emergency Messaging tabs to ensure you receive important messages.
Canvas
For the past couple of years, the district has implemented the Canvas learning management system for students. Not only is Canvas the program students use to access and complete assignments when working online, it also has a parent portal side that allows you to see your student’s assignments, due dates and grades (like the upcoming midterm grades). For information on navigating Canvas, including a self-paced Canvas course, please visit: https://sites.google.com/mtnhomesd.org/mhsdcanvas/home
Road Work
Beginning September 15th, the City of Mountain Home will be starting a major roadwork project that will close down Jackson Street in front of Hacker for 2 to 3 weeks. We are currently working on the logistics for student pick up / drop off and will send that out in a separate email soon.
Final Notes
Without question, this has been the best start to a school year I have experienced in my time at Hacker! Students and staff alike are settling into the routine of the school year and getting down to the business of education.
With that, please know we have an outstanding, dedicated staff here at Hacker who work very diligently to provide your student the best learning opportunities. While there may be times we won’t see things in the exact same way, as parents and educators, we are all working to help your student build the knowledge and skills to help them be successful in their future.
Thank you for your continued support as we work each day to provide your student with a quality education.
Sincerely,
Lonni Smith
Principal
