Leadership Team message from Jonathan J
Whāia e koe te iti kahurangi ki te tūohu koe, me he maunga teitei
Pursue excellence – should you stumble, let it be to a lofty mountain
Tēnā koutou katoa,
We hope that you all had a relaxing and fun-filled holiday and Labour Day long weekend and welcome back to term 4. This term is a short term with many exciting and challenging events within it.
Our year five and six students have their camp coming up in week 8 (5th - 9th December). We are really excited that this camp is going ahead. Tracy and Mark, Tuakana and Mahi Tahi team leaders are working closely with their teams on the organisation of the week, including those who will be staying behind at school. More information should be coming out soon about organisation of the camp. Please keep an eye out for updates on email and Seesaw.
The Friends of Edendale (PTA) are busy organising the school disco for this term. The disco will be on Thursday the 17th of November and this will be a fun event and a great time for the community to come together and connect.
In the coming weeks, we will also start some more work on upgrading the school grounds. The school has engaged with SolarZero and we are having solar panels installed on some of the school roofs. This project will help the school move to a more renewable energy source as well as help with our power bill.
Our school has started our journey with The Sir John Kirwin foundation Mitey programme. Mitey is a school-wide approach to mental wellbeing. Every part of the Mitey journey brings teachers, staff and communities together around one common goal – mentally thriving children. Further down in the newsletter is a survey with one question we would like you to answer. The more people we hear from the better, so if you can please take the time to fill this out for us it would be appreciated.

Mitey Parent Survey
Tēnā koutou katoa,
Edendale Primary has started our journey with The Sir John Kirwin foundation Mitey programme. Mitey is a school-wide approach to mental wellbeing. Every part of the Mitey journey brings teachers, staff and communities together around one common goal – mentally thriving children.
Mitey is built for NZ educators, by NZ educators. Every part of Mitey, from the role of the coaches to the units of work, have been co-designed with teachers and the University of Auckland’s Faculty of Education and Social Work. It is grounded in both international best practice and pioneering local research.
Our first piece of work for this project is to gather community voice on the following question:
At Edendale School we are mentally healthy when?
We would really appreciate you answering this question in this attached Google form
https://forms.gle/XapaXMWmpH1xuEWy5
Cut off date to complete the Mitey survey is 7 November 2022.
Thank you.

Edendale is looking for a family who has a spare room who could homestay our MLA for next year, there is some remuneration for this.
If you are interested in hosting a homestay for 2023 please email Jonathan Jackson jonathanj@edendale.school.nz
Early next term we will be able to provide those people interested with more information about what this would look like e.g. dates, remuneration and requirements.

Your Friends of Edendale PTA have been BUSY!! It’s the last term of the year and there is lots happening... please take a moment to put some dates in your calendar now.
It’s back, it’s always great fun, it’s the Disco!!!
Thursday 17th November
This year it will be one event for all ages. The House Captains are working hard on this year’s theme, so please look out for more communication very soon.
We are also looking for lots of help… we’ll need volunteers on the night, and we are trying out a new volunteering tool to share the load.
We are also looking for parents or businesses willing to sponsor items for the Disco. Again, please look out for the communication and we’ll get more specific.
The first Bake Sale of the term is coming up:
Friday 4th November
Start saving those coins, we’ll send out a reminder next week.
Finally, we are delighted to welcome some more new faces to the Friends of Edendale team over the last couple of months. We are seeing so much enthusiasm and new ideas! Now is still a great time to join us as many hands make light work.
The next PTA meeting will focus on final disco prep and is on 10th November @ 7:00pm in the School, or with a link for anyone who can’t make it in. Contact us on pta@edendale.school.nz if you would like to join us.
Also put the date of the AGM in your calendars… it’s the final meeting of the year and will be held on Thursday 1st December at 7pm. We will elect next year’s key roles and discuss ideas for events. Everyone is welcome, it’s a great chance to see what we are all about.
If you want to talk about any of our roles, or the PTA in general, please get in touch with Roni for a chat, 021 454 882 or ronineeley@gmail.com.
