Quote of the Week

Sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same.

Blog: Dare to be Different

Goodwill steps up to accommodate employee with disabilities
I remember going to watch Matt play basketball. I made the trek out to the Monon Center in Carmel not really knowing what to expect. Matt had invited me to come watch this particular tournament and I felt obligated to go. Yep, obligated. I had to go. I had to go because of Matt. I had to go because people that Dare to be Different push others to feel obligated to do things that will have a positive impact. You see, Matt never made excuses and that impressed me. A kid with all of the excuses in the world made none. So when he asked me to come watch his team play, I had to say yes. I knew in my heart that going to watch him play would have a positive impact on him and his outlook on school. Weirdly enough he drove me to do something that would have a positive impact on him.

That basketball game is still one of the most impressive things that I have ever seen. The offense, the defense, the screens, and the intensity level were unlike anything I had ever witnessed. Do you think people look at Matt and think "athlete?" You can bet Matt looks at himself and thinks, "athlete." Take a look in the mirror. What don't you see? Things you say, "I am just not very good at.....I struggle to....I can't."

You can absolutely be good at can absolutely find it easy......yes, you can. There is no barrier in the world that you are not able to overcome. People that Dare to be Different don't worry about barriers. They set out to make a positive impact through action. Thanks to Matt for this reminder. Don't take no for an answer.

Counselors Corner

Welcome Back! You will see the counselors in and out of classrooms a lot during the first week. Don't worry, we are just observing students!

Students can sign up to speak with a counselor from any device that has internet access. Teachers: you can save this link on your computer or ipad, and students can sign up directly from your room! No need for student to leave the classroom and miss instruction!

As always, if a student is in crisis they will be seen by a counselor immediately.

We have added an additional 1/2 time nurse to support Kerra in the clinic! Jennifer Thacker and Jen Bargo have been brought on board to assist, One of the two will be here each day from around 6:30-11:00. This will allow to take a lunch without closing the clinic!

If you have questions about health services, let Kerra or I know.
