St Jude School
February 21, 2020
Late breaking news
I wanted to inform you that St. Jude School’ s administration team, with the support of Father Joe, has decided to close the school on Monday, February 24, 2020. Each day, the number of students absent due to illness has continued to grow. We have devised a plan that includes closing the school on Monday, sanitizing all areas of the building, opening windows, and praying to our patron saints for healing. It is our sincere hope that, by doing so, we will decrease the spread of germs and allow students to return to school healthy. Closing of the school includes the cancellation of all after school events such as CYO practice, scouts, drama, etc.
As an additional precaution, we have asked the teachers to send home lunchboxes, backpacks, gym clothes, gloves, etc. to be washed over the weekend. I wish to thank Mr. Jim Rokasy and his maintenance staff for their commitment to this school. Thank you for all of your hard work and support of this aggressive effort to stop the spread of germs. Additionally, a very special thank you to Mrs. Jean Januzzi, School Nurse, for your patience and kindness with our sick kiddos that have passed through your office.
I want to provide families ample time to make the necessary arrangements for this unscheduled day off from school, Monday, February 24, 2020. Should you have any questions or concerns, please email me.
Message from Fr. Joe
I participated with delight yesterday (Thursday) in the assembly, sponsored by St. Jude School for our children, with the presence of the invited guest and speaker, Mr.Leon Logothetis, creator of the Netflix series “Kindness Diaries”. His presence was a total surprise. He gave a cogent message on the value of this virtue, and he challenged the children to live by it.
Do you know that Scriptures mention the word kindness 48 times? Psalm 85 says, “The Lord is kind and merciful (v.5). For St. Paul, kindness is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Kindness is the consideration of others, feeling their feelings, concern for others.
Being kind at all times is challenging because often impulsivity and quick judgment make us blurt out our upset and respond aggressively to their conduct. Awareness that we need to be kind will help us to restrain and control our anger when disagreement and upset occur.
So, parents, should the case arise where you disagree with a decision made by a teacher or by office personnel, be kind! Talk with civility with him/her. Dialoguing with kindness leads to the resolution of issues and to mutual respect. Remember that kindness is a Christian virtue that we strive to instill in our children.

Weekly Update from Mrs. Hibler
Dear Parents:
On Thursday, February 20th, we welcomed Leon Logothetis, who travels the world, surviving only on the acts of kindness of others. He grew up in London, a very lonely boy that was bullied at school. Each day he ate lunch in the library of the school alone, then one day, two years later, a boy invited Leon to eat lunch with him and his buddies. This simple act of kindness forever changed Leon's outlook on the human race. His inspirational message was the motivation behind the kindness theme this year. The students squealed with excitement when they saw Leon enter the gymnasium yesterday. A very special thank you to our fantastic teaching staff for your commitment to our year-long kindness theme. Each week before heading over to Mass, the students have been watching the Netflix series, The Kindness Diaries. In this docuseries, Logothetis shares his global adventures traveling in a yellow bug. He stressed to our students that kindness is free, and everyone can choose to be kind. In one story, he talked about meeting Terry, a homeless man from Pittsburg. Without hesitation, Terry shared his clothes, blankets, and food with Leon. He told the students how he learned from Terry, "you don't need a lot on the outside to be good on the inside." #GOBEKIND
Godspeed,
Mrs. Molly Hibler
