If you are considering playing a sport at a Division I or II college, you need to register with NCAA by visiting http://elgibilitycenter.org. This process must be completed in order to play at the college level. Please see your counselor with any questions.
NAIA colleges now require their athletes to complete eligibility as well. You can register with the NAIA by visiting www.playnaia.org
Interesting College Information
The University of Alabama offers a variety of scholarships for out of state students. The Academic Elite Scholarship (3.5 GPA, 1400-1600 SAT/32-36 ACT) is worth $34,000, the value of tuition for 4 years, and an IPad. The Presidential Scholar Award (3.8 GPA, 1400-1600 SAT/32-36 ACT) is worth the value of out of state tuition for 4 years. The UA Scholar Award (3.5 GPA, 1330-1390 SAT/30-31 ACT) is worth two-thirds the value of out of state tuition for 4 years. The Collegiate Scholar Award (3.5 GPA, 1250-1320 SAT/28-29 ACT) is worth $14,000 over 4 years. The Capstone Scholar Award (3.5 GPA, 1210-1240 SAT/27 ACT) is worth $6,000 over 4 years. The American College of the Building Arts is located in Charleston, SC. Their program combines liberal arts classes and hands-on training for building artisans. Summer internships in South Carolina and Europe are offered. The school is located in the historic “Old Charleston Jail” which was built in 1798. Visit their website at www.buildingartscollege.us.

Auburn University offers a variety of scholarships for out of state students with a minimum ACT score of 29 or SAT score of 1290 (excluding writing) and a 3.5 GPA. They also offer the following elite scholarships: The Presidential Scholarship (34-36 ACT / 1490-1600 SAT with a 3.5 GPA) is worth $60,000 over 4 years with a $1000 technology allowance in the first fall semester. The Heritage Scholarship (31-33 ACT / 1360-1480 SAT with a 3.5 GPA) is worth $40,000 over 4 years. The Charter Scholarship (29-30 ACT / 1290-1350 SAT with a 3.5 GPA) is worth $20,000 over 4 years. Auburn offers an
Early Action beginning in October. Students who meet the Early Action criteria will be accepted on a weekly basis from October 15 to February 1.
Belmont Abbey College (15 miles outside of Charlotte) offers a degree in Motor Sports Management. Their website is www.belmontabbeycollege.edu.
Benedict College in Columbia, SC offers the following academic scholarships. The Trustee Club Scholarship (GPA 3.8 – 4.0) is worth $68,000 over 4 years. The Trustee Scholarship (GPA 3.5 – 3.79) is worth $52,000 over 4 years. The Presidential Scholarship (GPA 3.0 – 3.49) is worth $30,000 over 4 years. The Academic Excellence Scholarship (GPA 2.5 –2.99) is worth $8,000 over 4 years. Regular admissions requirements are 2 of these 3 criteria: 2.0 GPA, 750 SAT/15 ACT, top 75% of graduating class. Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC offers 1 of only 19 Golf Management Programs in the U.S. They also offer degree programs Visit www.campbell.edu for more information.
Charleston Southern University is offering a FREE APPLICATION from Sept. 1 – Dec. 31. They also offer academic scholarships up to $14,000 to qualifying students. CSU now offers majors in Nursing and Health Promotion. Visit www.charlestonsouthern.edu for more information. CSU is offering full tuition, room and board to a limited number of
Palmetto Fellows.
Coastal Carolina University offers a variety of merit based scholarships. The President’s Scholarship (3.5 GPA 1250SAT/27 ACT) is worth $16,000 over 4 years. The Provost’s Scholarship (3.5 GPA 1200 SAT/26 ACT) is worth $8,000 over 4 years. The Coastal Scholar Award (3.5 GPA 1100 SAT/24 ACT) is worth $4,000 over 4 years. They have the PGA
Professional Golf Management Program Scholars Awards which range from $2500 - $4000 per year. Visit www.coastal.edu for more information.
Coker College (www.coker.edu) is a small 4-year private college in Hartsville that uses Round Table Learning Model to engage students in the classroom.
Columbia College (www.columbiasc.edu) is a 4-year Women’s College. The averages for accepted students are GPA –3.6, SAT – 1040. They offer athletics in basketball, soccer, softball, volleyball and tennis.
Columbia International University (www.ciu.edu) is a small 4-year private college where all students complete a double
major with one of those majors in Bible. They will host Scholarship Weekend Dec. 1 -3. Please call Admissions at 803.807.5024 if you are interested in a scholarship.
Converse College (www.converse.edu) is a small 4-year private Women’s College in Spartanburg. They have a 3-2 Nursing Program with Vanderbilt University and they have a program in Musical Theatre. They offer athletics in golf, swimming, equestrian, lacrosse, tennis, soccer, basketball, volleyball and cross country.
Davidson College offers The John Montgomery Belk Scholarship (valued at over $54,000 per year) to outstanding students with demonstrated intellectual ability and success. This is Davidson’s most prestigious merit-based program. If you plan to apply to Davidson and wish to be considered for this scholarship, please see your counselor no later than Oct. 1.
East Tennessee State University offers a degree program in Country Music. ETSU offers students from Lexington County, SC who have a 3.0 and SAT/ACT score of 2020/22 a $15,000 scholarship. Their website is www.etsu.edu.
Erskine College offers the following scholarships. Palmetto Fellows recipients will receive an Erskine Scholarship worth $100,000 over 4 years. LIFE Scholarship recipients will receive an Erskine Scholarship worth $75,000 over 4 years. HOPE Scholarship recipients will receive an Erskine Scholarship worth $17,200 for one year. Presidential Scholarships that range from $20,000 per year to the cost of full tuition, room and board are also awarded through and application and interview process. Francis Marion University (www.fmarion.edu) in Florence now offers a FNP program and a new athletic complex.
Furman University (www.furman.edu) no longer requires the SAT or ACT. They are test optional. However, keep in mind that a SAT or ACT score may be needed for the S.C. Education Lottery Scholarships.
Lander University (www.lander.edu) in Greenwood offers Therapeutic Horsemanship as a minor and offers an Equestrian program. Averages for accepted students are GPA – 3.5, SAT – 1000, ACT – 21.
Lees-McRae College (www.lmc.edu) in Banner Elk, NC offers excellent programs in Musical Theatre and Wildlife Biology. They also offer a minor in Bicycling Studies. They are continuing to offer Outdoor Adventure Studies which focuses on areas
such as advanced wilderness skills and outdoor adventure leadership.
Meredith College (www.meredith.edu) in Raleigh, NC is a private 4-year Women’s College. They offer a major in Criminology. Athletics are offered in soccer, volleyball, tennis, cross country, softball and basketball.
Morris College (www.morris.edu) in Sumter is a HBCU with a major in Forensic Science. Averages for accepted students are GPA – 2.0, SAT – 800. Morris is a “Call Me Mister” school.
North Carolina A & T State University (www.ncat.edu) in Greensboro, NC is the second large HBCU in the country with approximately 11,000 students.
North Greenville University (www.ngu.edu) in Tigerville has a new Musical Theatre major. They are now fielding a Track and Field Program for men and women. They are offering a degree in Broadcast Journalism. They will award ‘full ride scholarships’ to 15-20 Palmetto Fellows Scholarship recipients.
UNC Charlotte offers The Levine Scholars Program to students who meet the following criteria: GPA of at least 3.8 on a 4.0 scale, SAT score of 1800 – 2400 on all three sections combined or ACT score of 29 – 36, a demonstrated commitment to community service, possess a capacity of ethical leadership. Levine Scholars receive full tuition, room, board, and mandatory fees, a new laptop, and many other perks. Visit www.LevineScholars.uncc.edu for details. Southern Wesleyan University offers Palmetto Fellows recipients the SWU Fellow Award which will cover tuition, room, board, and all academically related fees. Visit www.swu.edu for more information.
Washington University in St. Louis offers the Danforth Scholars Program for outstanding students with a commitment to community service, high moral character, and leadership. If you plan to apply to Washington University in
St. Louis and would like to be nominated for this program, see your counselor no later than Oct. 1.
Winthrop University offers several academic scholarships to in state students. Palmetto Fellows recipients will receive the Winthrop Fellows Scholarship which combined with Palmetto Fellows is up to $78,000. The Winthrop Gold Scholarship worth
up to $36,000 is offered for students with a GPA of 3.5 and SAT/ACT of 1300/29. The Winthrop Garnet Scholarship worth up to $24,000 is offered for students with a GPA of 3.5 and SAT/ACT of 1200/27. The Winthrop Blue Line Scholarship worth up to $12,000 is offered for students with a GPA of 3.5 and SAT/ACT of 1050/23. Visit www.winthrop.edu for more information.
