GROWING LEADERS! April 4th, 2021
What's Happening in the Furr Fold!
REMINDER: Monday, April 5th is a School Holiday. Both Furr Elementary and Prosper ISD will be closed.
Hello Furr Families!
We have entered into the month of APRIL. Knowing that we have 7 weeks left in the school year, our students continue to amaze me with the amount of academic growth I see from them on a daily basis. I am very proud of ALL of our students! They are working very hard to reach their goals and exceed them. If you are looking for ways to help your children, there is one simple thing that we can ALL do to help them be successful. That is, read with them, read to them and let them read to you on a daily basis. FOSTER the love of Reading! Our staff is working hard to excite our students about books and reading ...and we could use your help.
Speaking of your help, our LOST & FOUND is GROWING! If your child has lost a clothing item, a lunch box, or a unlabeled water bottle, please have them look for the item at our lost & found.
Being LATE to school is unacceptable. Parents, please make sure you are setting your child up for success by getting your student to school on time. THIS IS A VALUABLE SKILL they need. When a child is late, they are missing valuable instruction for the day. Instruction starts at 7:45! Our Student Tardies are increasing and I need your help to prevent this habit from forming!
Our first STAAR Test in on Tuesday, April 6th, when we return from the long weekend. Our 4th Graders will lead us off this year by taking the 4th GRade STAAR Writing test. If you have a 4th Grader, please make sure there are no appointments made for them, on this day. Please make sure they have a great night sleep, eat a nutritious breakfast and arrive on time to school.
Picnic Lunches have been a huge success here at Furr Elementary. We have opened up grade level lunches for visitors for an OUTSIDE picnic lunch with family members within the same household. We are limiting each grade level to 5 slots with a maximum of one visit per student. Unfortunately due to spacing in the cafe, we do not have space to hold parent/child lunches inside. If you opt to come have lunch with your child, you will check in at the front office, connect with your child and have a picnic lunch in the front area. Bring a quilt, to picnic in the grass or sit on the benches. Your choice! Rain or shine we will stick to the schedule. Here is the sign up.

RECESS:
Recess is a vital part of our day. It is a needed time for students to get fresh air and exhaust some energy. Starting this week, we are allowing classes to play with other classes during recess. We will continue to monitor and adjust, if needed .
LITTLE FREE LIBRARY:
Studies have repeatedly shown that books in the hands of children have a meaningful impact on improving literacy. The more books in or near the home, the more likely a child will learn and love to read. With that in mind, we have opened a Little Free Library in front of Furr Elementary. You are welcome to take a book and/or leave a book. If the library is full and you would like to donate books for later, please have your student bring them to the library or front office. We will use these to replenish the library as needed. Enjoy reading!
Parents, please remember to answer the 4 Health screener questions and Nurse Notification daily. If you answer yes to any of the questions, please submit the screener and wait for our Nurse to get in touch with you. The safety and health of all of our students and staff is vital to the success of educating our children.
STAAR TEST Dates are on the horizon. Parents! I wanted to make you aware of these dates. They will affect our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. I also ask that if your child has a scheduled doctor's appointment on these dates, to please reschedule it. There will be more information coming soon to brief both the in-person and virtual students on testing procedures. Thank you, in advance, for your patience and support with these testing dates.

STUDENT REQUESTS to be CONSIDERED!
HEALTH SCREENER.....Please look at this Daily!
Every morning before you send your child to school, please look over the Health Screener to make your decision of whether or not my child should come to school today. WE thank you for taking the time to answer these questions on a daily basis and...keeping our school community safe!
FACE COVERINGS:
FACE COVERINGS @FURRELEMENTARY
Face coverings are required for all adults, 4th graders and 5th graders at Furr Elementary. We highly encourage ALL students, Pre-K to 5th grade, to wear a mask. All masks, brought from home, need to follow the PISD dress code requirements. Parents, please pack a mask in your child's backpack where it is readily accessible in case your child needs one. Thank you for your help in this matter.
Here at Furr Elementary, we will continue to follow and implement all guidelines set forth by our governor, local authorities and our district. We continue to enforce face coverings, washing hands, using hand sanitizer and social distancing on a continual basis. Please check our district website, Covid Dashboard, for any and all updates from our district.
PICKING UP YOUR STUDENT DURING SCHOOL HOURS:
PICKING UP YOUR CHILD DURING SCHOOL HOURS:
Parents that need to pick up their child from school during the school day should remain in their car and call the front desk @ 469-219-2280. School staff will then escort the child out to the car and verify identification before releasing the child.
Rainy Day Procedures:
Rainy Day Procedures For Furr Elementary:
1. If there is heavy rain and/or lightning at the time of dismissal, ALL walking students (including 2nd-5th graders) will be held in the students classroom until a parent picks up their student from the Gym Doors. This means you can still pick up like normal with your umbrella if you would like! At the time of the rain/lightning ending, we will allow 2nd-5th graders to walk home without supervision as they usually do. Any Kinder/1st grade students(unaccompanied) still in the building when the rain ends will be brought to the front office for a parent to pick up.
2. If a parent calls during rain at dismissal, we WILL take a transportation change (even after 1:30PM).
3. Walkers will NOT automatically be car riders. This will only happen if a transportation change comes in. If you want to be sure your child is picked up in a car, please call the office at 469-219-2280.
4. Parents, please make sure you have your transportation tag (family #). We will not release any student to an adult, without your transportation tag(family#) and an ID.
Remember, we will not let your student walk home alone in heavy rain/lightening. The safeguard is in place that if we don’t get a transportation change, the student can still be picked up from the Gym Doors by walking up with your transportation tag (family #).
Thank you for your help.
MORNING ARRIVAL:
MORNING ARRIVAL: DROPPING OFF YOUR CHILD: We have 2 areas designed for dropping off your student safely, the front (A-L) car line and the back (M-Z) car line. Please DO NOT drop your child off at the bike racks. This is not a drop off zone. Thank you for your help in this area.
