Tinker vs. Des Moines

AMENDMENT I

The Summary of The Case

In the case the Tinkers sued the school accusing the school of taking their freedom of speech when the school suspended them for wearing armbands that had to do with the Vietnam war. The Tinkers won the case in a 7 to 2 decision and the Supreme Courts final decision was that the two girls could wear armbands protesting the Vietnam war but the armbands couldn't have anything to do with political views.

One Quote From The Majority Opinion and Minority Opinion

The majority opinion said that the Tinkers wearing armbands would not "substantially interfere with the work of the school or impinge upon the rights of other students."

According to justice black "The Tinkers' armbands did indeed cause a disturbance by taking students' minds off their class work."
