Note from Mr. Camp

Dear Werner Community,

I want to share a big "Thank You" for all your help and support in the transition to new arrival/dismissal procedures. Your patience and flexibility are helping us keep things safe and efficient. If you have another family member or friend drop off/pick up, please remind them of our procedures. Thanks again!

The COVID-19 Case Dashboard is designed to give our community a transparent look at the prevalence of COVID-19 in PSD. The default dashboard page displays information from Oct. 5, the first day primary students were in session, through the present. There are also pages that display information for the previous 28 days and for each month. Dashboard data are refreshed daily at 5 p.m. and overnight.

Just a friendly reminder that there is No School for students on Monday, February 15. I hope you all all have a great weekend and time with your families! Stay warm!

Sincerely,

Hayden

NEWS FROM WERNER

2021-22 Werner Budget Survey

As we begin February, we have started the process of planning for the 2021-2022 school year. As part of our planning process, we ask our community to give use feedback on our priorities for next year to help guide our budget and staffing plan. You can access this brief survey at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BG237G8. This survey takes less than 5 minutes will be open until February 12. We appreciate your time in giving us input to help guide our decisions for building a staffing plan that supports our school.

Planning for 21-22 School Year

It's that time of year that we are working on planning for next year and need your help. If you have moved this year, please make sure you let the office know of your change if you haven't already. For those that have moved out of our attendance area, you will need to apply for School of Choice. Also, If you know that you won't be at Werner next year, please let our office know (488-5550). This does not pertain to 5th grade students. If you have any questions about enrollment, please check with our School Secretary, Mrs. Whetsell (488-5550).

Volunteers

PSD will soon allow a limited number of volunteers to work at schools. They will be restricted to roles where minimal close contact would occur for staff or students, such as outside traffic monitoring during arrival and dismissal, outdoor recess monitoring, and possibly clerical work such as shelving library books or making copies. Protocols are still being developed, but volunteers will be required to wear personal protective equipment, including masks, and pass a symptom screening before entering any PSD school or building. More details will be shared when they are available.

Healthy Kids Club 5210+ Challenge

Dear Werner Families,

I am excited that Healthy Kids Club is still offering their 5210+ Challenge. 5210+ runs from February 1 through February 28. This challenge is a great way for families to see which areas of health kids are excelling in and which areas kids need to think about more. All your family has to do is fill out the attached pdf by either printing them or checking the boxes within the pdf. Also, I have attached the instructions pdf and a link to a fun video that explains what to do.

This is a different way of doing the challenge from years passed, but it will be just as fun! In the beginning of March, I will provide a link for you to record your results. The prizes are: 1) finding out about kid’s health, 2) a t-shirt if kids get 80 or more checks on their health logs, 3) extra credit in PE, 4) money for our school if we get enough participants.

Besides Werner kids participating, anyone in your family can participate too!

Have fun and let me know if you have any questions.

Coach J. – Doug

Reminder: Changes to Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures

Drop-Off Procedures

· Students may arrive no earlier than 8:30 a.m. and should proceed to their classroom. Breakfast may be picked up near the modular.

· Make sure students are prepared to immediately exit with their backpack, etc.

· Students should exit the passenger side of the car if dropped off in Drop-Off Lane.

· Keep pulling forward in the drop-off lane until you get near the front entrance.

· Parents should remain in the car. If you need to assist your very young child out, please park in south parking lot, or along surrounding streets (Roma, Highcastle, or Mail Creek) and help them get to an adjoining sidewalk. Let them walk to classrooms on their own.

· Parents should NOT walk their child to class. We will have staff available to direct and escort students to the correct classroom.

· Parents who are walking their students to school should not proceed beyond the fence lines on to the school grounds.

· REMINDERS: Wear your mask. No pets on school grounds. Stay off your cell phone while driving.

Pick-Up Procedures:

· Students are dismissed at 3:28 p.m.

· Students will walk out exterior classroom door to where you have agreed to pick them up (Pick-Up Lane in South Parking Lot, Highcastle Lane parking area, Roma Valley Lane, Mail Creek Lane north of school).

· If you are picking up in the Pick-Up Lane, please wait patiently in your car and keep pulling forward. Please do not get out of your car. If you have difficulty finding your student, please find a staff member. Staff will be on duty to help direct students. Staff will help student find you and get in the car on the passenger side.

· If you are parked along one of the surrounding streets, please either wait in your car or off the school grounds. Please note, there is no parking along Mail Creek Lane adjacent to the parking lots.

· REMINDERS: Wear your mask. No pets on school grounds. Stay off your cell phone while driving.

Please do not drop-off or pick-up in the north parking lot unless you have a disability parking placard. This lot is for staff parking and buses.

Be patient, understanding, and kind. Our staff will do our best to load kids safely and efficiently into cars. We will adjust as the situation warrants and keep you in the loop with any changes.

Resources for those facing housing and food hardship

The COVID-19 pandemic has created financial hardships for many in our community, leading to housing instability and food insecurity. There are financial resources available to help families and landlords and protections in place to help people stay housed. The PSD Department of Language, Culture, & Equity has worked with community partners to put together resources to support families.

Please see the LCE Family Resources Information (English and Spanish) for information on support with housing, food, and utilities.

PSD Newsletter-GHH

One of many ways information is shared is through the Great Happens Here community newsletter, which features timely information about the latest happenings in the district. GHH is emailed to families and interested community members about every two weeks.

Here is the most recent newsletter from PSD with Great Happens Here. For archived newsletters and information about how to sign up, go to: https://www.psdschools.org/department/communications.
