From Mr. Clemente
Dear Winter Park Band families,
Wow, what a week to be a part of the Winter Park Band! From concerts, to the West Side Showcase, to multiple football games, it was a jam-packed week of opportunities to perform and make music with our community. I'm so proud of our students, and we continue to work to build off of the great foundations they are laying. Looking forward to Marching MPA in two weeks and what the rest of the school year holds in store!
An enormous THANK YOU to the Band parents who helped out this week in ways both big and small, seen and unseen. Thank you to all the chaperones for the marching band events, servers for lunch on Saturday afternoon, and attendees for the concerts in the middle of the week. In particular, thank you to Dana Adkinson for her Band Booster Leadership, Robyn Fodor for coordinating 3 (!) chaperoned events in one week, Ellen DeLoach for keeping our students hydrated and well-fed so they can perform at their best, and Amanda Schaefer and the uniform crew for keeping our students looking the best!
We hope to see lots of parents line the parking lot on D-Lot for Tuesday night's Trunk-r-Treat following marching band rehearsal! Please see Mrs. Adkinson's section of the newsletter for more info and details.
This week is a big opportunity to be together with our entire Winter Park Band community! We get the chance to welcome Future Wildcats from Audubon Park School, Glenridge Middle School, and Maitland Middle School Thursday at our annual Middle School Night football game! Middle School Night will take place at the varsity football game on Thursday, October 27, and will feature a new aspect where we spend time meeting, greeting, and making music with the current 8th graders in the Auditorium before all heading over to Showalter Field together for the game. Due to rescheduled homecoming activities, both the SOTW and the TCHS Band will perform after the game.
Congratulations to our Winter Park Band students who recently were accepted to perform at the Tri-State Band Festival at FSU and the Festival of Winds at USF in December!
Tri-State
- Curtis Culhane
Festival of Winds
- Gabrielle Batas
- Henry Fu
- Madelyn Kerst

Our InstaRaise fundraiser continues to go well, and we are down to the wire with 4 days remaining. Currently, we have just over $17,000.00 raised for the Band - wow! I know we can make up the other half to go to reach our $30,000.00 goal! Let's get out there and raise money for the program and for our NYC trip!
Let's take advantage of our opportunity to make it a great week!
Mr. Clemente

From the Band Booster President, Mrs. Dana Adkinson
Hello Band Families! Wow. What. a. week! But our kids sure did perform (many times!) so well and represented WPHS superbly at every event, as usual.
This newsletter is about to sound like a THANKS-giving version, with all the people to thank for their hard work .. so buckle in for Thanks-giving-out in October ...
Thanks to the trusty chaperones for Monday night's game, Friday night's game and Saturday's Showcase event .. as has been said before, we seriously would not be able to do these off site events without chaperones, per county policy, so a million thank yous to the parents who helped ensure that all of our kids can participate! And Mr. Clemente and Mr. Smith, thanks to you both for all the hard work, instruction and organization it takes to put a week like this together. Exhausting, but we made it through!
And thanks to all the parents and family members who came out to attend the Fall Concert this past Tuesday .. that was a very full house! The students did a beautiful job .. kudos to them and the directors for providing an evening of great music and showing our community what you all have been working on in your Band classes so far. Lovely evening!
Hopefully you've had a chance during this busy week to peruse the Concert Program .. thanks to Julie Capps (our Program Coordinator) for coordinating the ad sales and working with our graphic designer, Sherri Tyson (Buzz Graphics) to design and prep the program for printing. Getting all of that together is a LOT of hard work. Thank you, Julie! You are amazing!
Thanks so much for the parents who chaperoned for the Showcase event yesterday .. long day, but a lot of fun to watch other bands perform and to see our SOTW do so. very. well!! These are the events where our marching band kids really get to shine.
Trunk-r-Treat is THIS TUESDAY! This WPHS band tradition is fun for the whole band family! But it works only with parent participation (again!) .. here's how: Band Students don their Halloween Costumes for this day’s rehearsal. Then, after rehearsal is over, just like Halloween out of the back of car, parents arrive at D-Lot toward the end of rehearsal (around 7:45 or 8:00sih .. as rehearsal is over at 8:30), park their cars and open their trunks! Parents (and younger siblings for sure!) decorate their car trunks and pass out candy from the trunks to our students once they are released from rehearsal that day. Lots of candy! Lots of students! Lots of fun! Be sure to mark your calendar and join us!
Guess what? We've got all chaperone slots filled for this Thursday night's game.. woo! hoo! .. but need about 4 more for the homecoming parade re-do on Wednesday, November 2 and the same for Marching MPA, Saturday, November 5. Please check your calendars for your availability! And sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0a4fadab22aa8-football
Students who need volunteer hours, Uniform Coordinator, Amanda Schaefer needs some help organizing the uniform rooms once our official marching season comes to an end. Sign up to help here for a couple of Wednesday afternoons in November: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0a4fadab22aa8-student
Senior parents, check your email in box for another upcoming email from me about Senior Night, November 4th .. information about the expense (I know, yuck!) and activities are included there. Please contact me with questions (dana@keepsakefloral.com).
Hope you're getting lots of rest today, band kids (and parents and directors)! You deserve it! Have a wonderful week this week, everyone!

InstaRaise Fundraiser Ongoing
Hello all!
We are nearing then end of our Instaraise fundraiser! It closes on Wednesday. We currently are at just over $17,000 raised! Great work! Can we make it to $20,000? Continue to share on social media this week.
Also, if there are donations intended for your student that the donor did not attach it to the students name, please let me know. I can fix that for you. Just email me the donors name and the students name at ribaric.family@gmail.com.
Have a great week!
Heather Ribaric

Pride of the Wildcats - Winter Park Band Fleet Vehicle Support and Improvement
We are very proud of our Operations side of the Winter Park Band. We have a dedicated group of parents that take the Winter Park Band & Color Guard to all their events. However, without the use of the large tractor trailer that transports our equipment to and from each marching band event and the small trailer for color guard the task would be next to impossible.
Through the years, the operations group has made many changes to the trailers to improve the functionality for the Winter Park Band. Historically, all of the monies have been raised through private contributions of a select groups of parents and through the Alumni Foundation. Because of this the need of a full fundraiser event to deflect the cost of the band operations was never really until now.
In effort to maintain our large trailer’s top-notch condition, we are planning to do some MAJOR repairs and improvements to the trailer that is now in its 15th year of service for WPHS band. Additionally, we need to either replace (preferable) the small trailer or make it road worthy again.
Some of the items on our list of improvements are costly, including:
- Repairing some minor damage to larger trailer
- Repainting the lower section of the large trailer
- Rewrapping the upper section of the large trailer
- Replace wheel bearings on front axle
- Moving the back stairway to the back of the trailer
- Replacing or repairing the small trailer
- And other improvements to keep our kids and volunteers safe.
Since we are re-wrapping the large trailer, we will be selling sponsor spots on the larger trailer to defray the cost. There are 10 spots that are available for $1,000 each and the entire front of the trailer for $5,000. These opportunities are a great way to support the Winter Park Band and they are also tax deductible.
Please contact Keith Gavin at kgavin@sscands.com for further information on donations or to provide the goods or services to the improvements that are so desperately needed.
