Creating strong home school connections for student success!

#StillLovettStrong

It is my hope that this communication finds you all well! I know we were all taken by surprise with our recent winter storm! Once again we realized how important it is to stay connected as a community. Thanks to so many of you that reached out to each other and to our staff to lend a helping hand. Below are a few updates.

Mask will still be required in HISD

The Houston Independent School District (HISD) is aware of Governor Greg Abbott’s announcement to lift the statewide mask mandate. HISD will continue to require all students, staff, and visitors to wear masks on district property and at district events. This requirement is consistent with the advice of health professionals and guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Additionally, HISD will continue to follow the guidelines of its Communicable Disease Plan for the safety of all of our students and staff at all HISD campuses and district buildings, including practicing physical distancing. For more information on HISD’s safety measures, please visit www.HoustonISD.org/CDP.

STARR Test 2021

The STARR test will be administered this year, however schools will not be graded through the state accountability system. Students that are learning remotely must either come in person to take the STARR test OR choose not to take the test and continue with remote learning. All students that are learning in person will be tested. As we get closer to testing, we will be reaching out to our remote learning families to determine if they plan on bringing their child in for testing. The testing dates are as follows:

  • April 6: 4th grade STAAR Writing
  • May 11-14: Grades 3-5 Math Reading and 5th grade Science

What will STAAR data be used for? STAAR scores will not impact whether students are promoted to the next grade level. The data will be used by campus staff to plan instruction and supports for the 21-22 school year. STARR data helps us to look at specific TEKS that students are having trouble with and plan instruction/supports around those TEKS.

Will my child have learning data if they don't test? Yes, we will have some learning data on your child(grades, Ren 360, DRA, etc.), however not as comprehensive to the TEKS as STAAR. Lovett however will administer a beginning of the year assessment and this data will be used along with STAAR and other data sources.

If you have questions, please feel free to reach out to any of our administrators or your classroom teacher.

Lovett Pre-K 21-22

We are excited to announce that we will be opening our first pre-k unit in the 21-22 school year. HISD has set a goal to increase pre-k across the district and we are next on the list. Below I have linked a quick view sheet on pre-k eligibility. Please review and visit www.hisdchoice.com

for more information.

Summer Enrichment Camp

Lovett will not have summer enrichment camp this summer. With the challenges of the school year and with summer school potentially being larger, we have decided not to have summer enrichment camp. We hope we can continue the program in the summer of 2022.

Required Summer School

HISD is in the early stages of planning summer school for this summer. Summer school would be required for any student that failed a core content subject. The TENATIVE dates are June 16-July 14. Currently summer school is scheduled M-R, however this might change. The best way to not worry about this is to work with your students to stay on top of their work to keep their grades up. More information will follow as things get finalized.

Park Gate Closed afterschool

We will be closing the park gate afterschool as recently we observed students coming back onto campus and damaging the bridge. Our bridge currently has slats missing on the rail and unfortunately it's because students came back to campus and started hitting the bridge with various objects. Thanks in advance for your support in communicating to your children that respecting school property is important.

Tardy Students: School starts at 7:30

We are marking students tardy. Please plan ahead so students can be seated in their classrooms by the 7:40 bell. When students are late, they miss critical learning that starts at the bell. Let's set them up for success and get them here on time.
