The Shoally Creek "Tweet"

November 2019

A Message from the Principal:

Fall Greetings, Shoally Creek Elementary Families!

We had an awesome month of October here at Shoally Creek Elementary School!! Everyone seemed to enjoy our One District, One Book initiative as we all read the chapter book, Mr. Popper's Penguins together. Our goal was very simple...to help our students and families find joy in reading for pleasure together, and we hope that was accomplished for your child and your family!

We hope by now you are aware that Shoally Creek Elementary earned an "Excellent" state report card rating! This has been another exciting moment during the month of October for us all! The rating is one way of validating the extremely hard work that the SCES staff and students do each and every day we are together as a school family! We continue to set goals and have a positive vision for academic success! To show our appreciation for everyone's hard work, we held a week-long "Celebration of Excellence" for our students and staff. SCES is full of an AMAZING group of "Difference Makers"...our teachers, our students, and our parents! To view state report cards, please visit: https://screportcards.com/

More great news!!! We had the largest parent turn-out to date for our annual Quarter 1 Parent-Teacher Conferences! We appreciate the partnership and support that we receive from all of our SCES parents! Thank you!

Please continue to read this month's newsletter for more information and calendar items! As always, thank you for making Shoally Creek Elementary a great place to learn!

Become a Mentor!

According to Harvard University's Center on Developing Child, "Every child who ends up doing well has had at least one stable and committed relationship with a supportive adult." This year, our school is partnering with Mentor Upstate, a nonprofit organization, that seeks to support children with one-on-one positive relationships. As we launch this exciting program, we are looking for committed adults who are willing to support and encourage ONE student for the year. If you or someone you know from our school community can give 30 minutes a week, we need you!!

If you have any questions, you are invited to email the director of Mentor Spartanburg, at natalie@mentorupstate.org.

Reminders

*All afternoon transportation changes must be communicated to the front office by 11:00 am. Please reference the Student Handbook for further information.

*Please remember the South Carolina Compulsory Attendance Laws and Regulations in regards to the number of minutes students must attend school each day. Every minute that a student is not in class is counted and reported to the state. If a student misses even 15 minutes of class, this adds up to over an hour of class each week. Please make every minute count for learning!
