About Commencement

The Commencement Exercise is a long-standing tradition at Murray State University and represents a time of dignity and decorum. The ceremony is approximately two hours and will take place in the CFSB Center. We look forward to celebrating this milestone with Murray State graduates, their families, friends, and loved ones.

Special notes

There will be one ceremony for December. The CFSB Center will be open for guest seating 60 minutes prior to the ceremony. All seating is general admission for each commencement ceremony.

Accessibility:

Seating

NOTE: SEATING IS AVAILABLE ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED BASIS, THERE IS NO RESERVED SEATING. We encourage you to arrive as early as possible. Graduation officially begins at 10:00 a.m. but the graduates are to be lined up on the first floor earlier. The doors to the CFSB Center will open 60 minutes earlier.

Those individuals/family members with limited mobility can exit vehicles on the circle drive of the CFSB at the front door. This is the first floor of the CFSB Center and the elevator is located just inside the doors on your left. The elevator will take them to the second level where there is seating. Note that one or two family members may escort/accompany the individual/family member with a limited mobility to the elevator. The one or two escorts may also be seated with the individual/family member with limited mobility in the designated seating. There will also be attendants on the second level to show you where seating is located.

Parking/Drop-Off Zone

As we approach our Commencement/Graduation Ceremony, we want to make you aware of transportation logistics. Electronic traffic signs will guide northbound and southbound travelers on Highway 641 to the Stewart Stadium parking lot.

Visitors are encouraged to enter the stadium parking lot off of 12th Street (Highway 641). Upper Lot B is reserved for handicap accessible needs — this lot tends to fill up quickly.

Shuttle buses

Shuttle buses will run from the stadium to the CFSB center beginning 60 minutes prior to the ceremony. Murray State Police will be present to assist with traffic flow; however, because we anticipate delays, we ask that you adjust your travel time accordingly.

RacerAlerts and Emergency Weather Information

As winter approaches, the potential for severe or inclement weather increases. MSU has provided information on the three categories of inclement weather-related actions for campus and how those actions are communicated. Weather notifications will be communicated via all-user emails, MSU homepage, WKMS-FM (radio and website), University Facebook account, and the University Twitter account. Once these notifications have been sent, the MSU Police Department will issue a RacerAlert text message to all users who have opted into texting services.

About RacerAlerts: All current students, faculty, and staff who have provided their cell phone contact information through their myGate accounts are already signed up for RacerAlert text messages. To verify or update your primary cell phone number in myGate, follow the myGate Information Change Instructions (PDF). Information on how RacerAlerts work, as well as how parents and community partners can sign up is on the RacerAlerts website.

UNIVERSITY ALERTS: Any additional updates will be made available at murraystate.edu/weather.
