Writing Lab/Research Help
It feels like we just got done with midterms and here we are for finals. We know you have a ton of other stuff to read so we'll keep this newsletter short and sweet.
We open early during finals and have reduced hours during break. We are also about to get even busier after an already bustling trimester. Thank you so much for popping in but with mo' bodies comes mo' noise so check out tips on how to create a better studying experience for all.
We're also here for your research paper needs but we're busy so appointments/emails are recommended.
Last year we had cookies. We might do it again this year. Or something else. But we do have bakers in the library who like to put out treats during finals so be sure to pop in even if you aren't studying.
Good luck and have a wonderful break.

Quiet Study
The "Hushing" Season
Please be mindful of your conversations and understand that if a staff member approaches you to lower your voice, you're not in trouble, it's just an attempt to control the collective noise and not specifically you.
Study Rooms
Study Rooms: Remember, there is a two hour limit. You may sign up for additional time only after your two hours are close to being up and no one has signed up for the room after you. The sign-up sheet for finals is in the blue folder near the library worker.
In addition, while snacks are okay in the rooms, larger meals are not. Not only does it sometimes create a mess but the trash can stink up a room that may not be cleaned for a day or two.
Breaks are good!
Cookies? Candy? Chex Mix?
Research Assistance
We offer:
- Databases for your research needs.
- You can make an appointment with me, Krista, the reference and instruction librarian. I will sit with you and help you get started in your search. For best results, make an appointment in advance by emailing me at kjacobson@nwhealth.edu with as much information as possible. For instance, knowing the topic in advance before the meeting gives me the opportunity to get familiar with what we can offer.
- We also offer interlibrary loans if you need something we don't have.
Writing Lab
We offer:
- Assistance in developing the format of your paper.
- Reading over your paper to make sure it flows and to catch recurring errors.
- We do not, however, fully proofread or edit your paper.
- Please make an appointment in advance. Drop-in hours are limited to the evenings and the off chance someone might be available during the day. Email library@nwhealth.edu for availability.
