Lincoln Newsletter

Dear Lincoln Community,
As we learned Tuesday, bad weather can make the morning drop-off a little hectic. In the rush to be on time, many students were dropped off across the street, then ran through traffic. I want to reassure everyone that children will not be arrested for truancy if they arrive a few minutes late to homeroom on a rainy/snowy day. I want them to take their time and be safe. Please always drop off students in front of the building on Lincoln or Crescent Ave. If your child walks, remind them to only cross at the crosswalks.
On a related safety note, if you have older children at Maine South, you know that their new daily start time is 8:05 am, the same start time as Lincoln. This means that High School drivers will be heading west along streets such as Belle Plaine, Talcott, Stewart, and Albion, making the intersections at Engel, Western, Lincoln, and Greenwood much busier, and potentially more dangerous. If your child walks or rides their bike to Lincoln, please review the importance of being aware of one's surroundings - keeping an eye on traffic when crossing the street, and if riding a bike, wearing a helmet!
A reminder from the Lincoln Office: If your child has to leave for an appointment during the day, please provide them with a note. This serves as a reminder for students when they are to leave, and informs teachers as to why the student is leaving.
After School Tutoring is kicking off this week! Here is the link to the student portal that has the monthly schedule.
Don't forget Picture Day is Tuesday, 9/4!
Coming up the week of September 10th, Lincoln will be celebrating ROARS Week - five days of focus on our school-wide expectations: Respecting yourself and others, Offering empathy, Acting safely, being Responsible for one’s learning, and showing Self-control. Students who demonstrate these behaviors will be recognized by teachers with raffle tickets that they can submit for prizes during ROARS Week and throughout the year. If you would like to donate a prize for our ROARS raffles (e.g. tickets for events, gift cards, etc.) please contact me. Last year, over 817 tickets were turned in by students. That's 817 teachable moments on doing the right thing. I greatly appreciate your support in this endeavor.
