In The Classroom... 1/12/18
Wow, can you believe track out is next week and the third quarter has begun? This year is truly flying by. Please be sure to take the time to read this newsletter fully as there's lots of info you'll need to take note about.
So much happening next week... here's the scoop!
- There is no school on Monday as we recognize Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday.
- The kids have been learning about economics in Social Studies. They've learned about wants and needs as well as earning and saving money. They've discovered a lot about jobs within the community and which provide goods and services. To link literacy with Social Studies the kids have been busy writing an opinion piece about what they want to be when they grow up. They are also publishing these writings through Google Docs. On Thursday next week, the kids will celebrate Career Day by dressing up in the career they chose and wrote about. This is a celebration within the classroom and for just the students. We will be putting together a couple of technology based projects to share with parents and our school. You do not have to go out and buy anything for this special day. Just use what you have at home to help your child dress up for this fun event. I shared with you the career your child wrote about in his/her Friday Folder. Just read the comments section to find out. They can bring props for this, but please no weapons (fake or real) as this goes against Wake County Policy and we want our kids to be safe. Let me know if you have any questions. This day is always so super special and I can't wait to see the kids excitement as they walk down the hallway full of pride for the career they chose.
- Homework will be minimal next week. There will be information in your child's folder about our 120 Day and an upcoming project that connects to this day as well as a Valentine's Day List. We will be passing out Valentine's on the 14th so make sure you keep this list handy so you can prepare cards for the class. There will be no spelling next week.
- Friday is technically our track out day, but due to the inclement weather, we DO have school on Saturday. We will be having Camp Read-a-Lot on Saturday school. The kids can bring in books from home to read and/or take AR tests. I will not be at school on Saturday as I already had a trip planned/booked for this day. Mrs. Courtine will be subbing. It is a half day. Your child can bring a snack to school as there will be no breakfast or lunch served on this day.
- Track Out- I will not be sending another Newsletter next week since I will be out of town. I will have the website up to date with a Math Stumper and Track Out Reading Log for the kids to post on. If they ready 8 books or 1 chapter book over break then they will earn lunch with me when track back in. You can also choose to work ahead on the 120 Day project which will be due on Mon. Mar. 5th. I will link all the info to my website in case it's needed. Let me know if you have any questions.
Take care and have a great weekend!
