WORD
Today, students were presented with a performance by the J.E.T. company of the theatrical production of "WORD." The performance was written several years ago by students at Eastern Michigan University, which would bring to light the issues that many adolescents face regarding bullying. Characters in the show involved; the victim, the bully, the bystander, and the trusted adult. Students in 6th and 7th grade were presented this performance and were able to have a "talk-back" with the performers at the conclusion of the show.
Our students behaved marvelously and were engaged with the content. They also expressed to our performers that they could relate to the performance and talked about ways to "stand up" to bullying as opposed to being a bystander.
I would encourage you to ask your child about the performance. I found it very current and authentic with what many of our students go through around the country with bullying, cyber-bullying, and peer pressure.
