ATC Gets Ipads!
With these new devices and our Chromebooks, we are close to having a device for each student in the school. We are very appreciative of the district's support of our students to move technology forward at this level.
See below: Students in Mrs. Reynolds' class used Chromebooks and ipads today to access their math curriculum. With new QR readers on the ipads, they can now take a picture of their Go Math workbook and access a variety of new tools to assist with understanding.

Growth Mindset and One Word to Start the Year Right!
Below, Mrs. Salvaggio did this exercise with her entire class and they selected the word confidence. This couldn't have been a better choice for the class as confidence is a constant barrier for many students as they take on the increased rigor that comes each year throughout their schooling. At the Cummings, we focus on something we call Growth Mindset and encouraging students to always think about growth instead of whether they are "good at something." We focus on praising students for their hard work as opposed to their natural intelligence, recognizing this encourages students to see the connection between effort and success.
Growth Mindset phrases include the following:
- Instead of saying "I'm not good at this" say "What am I missing?"
- Instead of saying "I'm awesome at this" say "I'm on the right track."
- Instead of saying "I give up" say "I'll try some of the strategies I learned."
- Instead of saying "This is too hard" say "This may take some time and effort."
- Instead of saying "I can't make this any better" say "I can always improve."
- Instead of saying "I just can't do math" say "I will train my brain in math."
