Rocket Report

August 24, 2020

This week was the first week of Onsite Support for our ELL, special education, McKinney Vento and foster/group home students. Two of the cognitive classes supported students while simultaneously navigating virtual learning for the online students, this is no easy task and Mr. Romain and Ms. Moses's crew did so with tenacity, courage and strict adherence to our student and staff safety protocols.

The art and music rooms welcomed and supported students as they worked through their classes virtually. Thank you to everyone that has worked so hard to create a safe and supportive environment for staff and students as we support our most vulnerable students on campus.

Online this week we saw wonderful things happening as well! Teachers are giving praise for students that are following expectations and the SEL skills taught Week 1 and 2. It is great to see the positive interactions with staff and students as they continue to become familiar with this way of learning.

We also saw various learning checks, small group setting and increased engagement as teachers are finding ways to chunk the learning to increase success with the WHOLE objective.

Teachers, please post your WHOLE objectives in the chat so an observer can reference it when dropping in.

Thank you for all you do to make Dos Rios a place where ALL children are capable of success, No Exceptions!

Inspiring hope and empowering all students to courageously pursue their goals and dreams!

**PLC grade level teams: On Week 1 of each Unit, grade level teams will develop short CFAs (Common Formative Assessments) for the week or topic (based on team decision) for each section of the Unit (this is not the larger CFA for the entire Unit. That is already developed by Curriculum Mapping Team this summer).

In the remaining PLC meetings for that Unit, teams meet to discuss outcomes of most recent CFA and consider remediation/enrichments for students based on results.

-Student Services teachers can join an appropriate grade level PLC. On alternate day (Tuesday or Thursday) you can engage in PLC with other Student Services teachers. Please develop a plan and let me know.

SEL Skills for the Week

The Skill for the Week is STAYING ON TASK.

Let's reinforce this often with praise like "Thank you for staying on task by (following instructions, reading the directions, completing the assignment, finishing the reading...)"

Let's continue to use the PBIS language "Thank you for (being respectful, safe, responsible, following instructions...) by ___________".

PRAISE, PRAISE, PRAISE when you catch a student doing what is expected and asked of them. For every 1 redirect or negative attention you should follow-up with 4 praise comments or positive attention.
