Babysitting & Health and Safety Skills
Age 11 by 3/29/2022
Gain skills and confidence to be a great babysitter in a fun, fast-paced, interactive format. Hands-on activities, role play, and lively discussions are incorporated into the class. Learn about babysitting responsibilities, basic child development, basic care of children, and practice in problem-solving in emergency or accident situations. Learn and become certified in infant and child rescue breathing as well as first aid skills. Students receive a reference guide, handbook, and American Heart Association certification (upon test-out).
• Students must be at least age 11 by the day of class (3/29/2022).
• Students should bring a doll (if they have one) and a bag lunch.
This class is taught by American Heart Association certified instructor, Lisa Danielson.

ACT Test Prep: In-Depth Review
This class will be an in-depth review of content and strategies for English, Math, Reading, Science, and the optional essay. Upon completion of the class, students will have a better understanding of the ACT exam structure, time-management skills, and general and section-specific test-taking strategies.

ACT Prep : A Quick Look (Virtual Class)
Grades 10-12
This virtual online four-hour course will help students learn test-taking techniques for the ACT, focusing on developing specific skills and strategies needed for the four subject test areas (English, Math, Reading, and Science). Using sample test questions to practice strategies, students will learn fundamental test-taking skills vital for understanding the ACT and thus prepare students for actual test day. The ACT is a predictable test, so a few hours invested in learning the format and strategies used on the test is a great way to prepare! Join us and learn how you can “Beat the ACT!” before the ACT test held on Saturday, February 12 (offered at Dassel-Cokato if registered in advance).
A materials packet will be distributed & an online Google Meet class link will be emailed prior to the class start date.

For those youth gymnasts with more experience, this mini-camp will give them more time in the gymnastics gym while learning from our high school gymnasts in a fun and energetic atmosphere!

Community Education will take part in Powder Ridge’s Six-time program again this year. Pay for 6 weeks of skiing/snowboarding and get one bonus lift ticket for week 7 for FREE! Youth Outdoor Hockey
Grades K-9
The outdoor D-C Youth Hockey program provides kids with the opportunity to learn how to skate and play the game of hockey. The program includes skating, individual drills, team play, and scrimmages. If you don’t know how to skate, don’t worry, we will teach you.
Practices will begin on Saturday, January 8, and go through the end of February, weather permitting. We will also tentatively plan to hold an end-of-season event indoors; more details will be distributed in February. Participants will need to provide the following required equipment: skates, helmet with mask, and stick. Some skates will be available for use. Contact Community Ed. if you are in need. The remaining hockey equipment is recommended but not required.
Weather conditions: Practice will be canceled if the temperature is below zero. Remember, it is always the parent’s discretion as to whether or not their child attends due to weather conditions.

Kernels Baseball Spring Training Camp
Grades 1-6
Brush the dust off your ball and bat by attending this Spring Baseball Clinic. Players will work on getting ready for the baseball season by rotating through stations and drills helping athletes get back into the swing of things! Hitting, pitching, throwing, catching and fielding will help each player work on their form and develop their skills. This will be a great clinic to start the season before tryouts in April, batter up! Come prepared with your glove and bat. Registration includes a Kernels t-shirt. Players and their families will also receive one free Kernels game admission pass, pop & popcorn. Space is limited.

Spring Softball Clinic
This clinic will provide the basics of hitting, proper fielding techniques, aggressive base running, and the technique of throwing and catching a softball. Charger softball coaches and players of the D-C Charger varsity girl’s softball team will assist in teaching these skills. Clinic participants will also be a VIP guest at an upcoming home varsity softball game. Please bring a softball glove, a water bottle and wear athletic clothes and shoes.

Firearm Safety Training
Participants must have turned 11 years old by 11/1/2021
Class consist of classroom & range experience. Learn safe gun handling, gun care and storage, hunter responsibility, gun safety in the home, marksmanship, and more. One range day experience will be scheduled toward the end of the school year at Rainbow Sportsmen’s Club.
Students must attend the entirety of both classes & the range day. A parent/guardian must sign a waiver at the beginning of the first class. A fee of $7.50 will be paid to the DNR online after the completion of the class. Register early--maximum 35.
A manual needs to be picked up from the Community Education office prior to the course beginning. There is homework to be completed prior to the first class.

Competitive play for those girls who wish to play traveling softball this upcoming summer. Game locations and times will be determined by Crow River ASA league coordinators. It will be the responsibility of parents to make sure their child has transportation to and from games and practices.

Clogging is a fun and social way to exercise your body AND your brain! Known as "tap's rural cousin," clogging is a style of dance that originated in the Appalachian Mountains area and was inspired by folks and cultures from many different countries. This class is intended for students who have previously taken a clogging or tap class. We will learn new steps and dances and practice ones we have already learned. Discover the joy of knitting! All skill levels are welcome in this class. Knitters with previous experience are welcome to work on projects of their choice with guidance from the instructor when needed. Beginners will get one-on-one instruction as well as a beginner supply kit to learn the basics and open a world of endless creative possibilities! This course is a video-based, instructor-led course that teaches adult and child CPR and AED use, infant CPR, and how to relieve choking in adults, children, and infants. Skills are taught with research-proven practice-while-watching technique, which allows the instructor to observe the students, provide feedback, and guide the students’ learning of skills. This certification is designed for anyone with little or no medical training who requires training for their job, regulatory (ex. OSHA), other requirements, or anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting. This is NOT a BLS (Basic Life Support) course. Upon course, completion participants will be certified or re-certified by the American Heart Association for two years.
