Stress-Busting Holiday Literacy Tips for Families
● Encourage your child to create bookmarks to give as gifts or to mark the place in your own book where you leave off during storybook time. ● Ask your child to help with holiday shopping. Have him or her write out the list and then read the items aloud. ● Give your child a companion book to traditional holiday gifts, such as a book on juggling and several brightly colored balls; a book about fossils and a fossil creating kit; or a book about stamp collecting and a stamp album. ● When it's time for holiday baking, ask your child to read the directions aloud to you or read them together. ● While the cookies or other holiday treats are in the oven, read a short book together. ● Help your child make his or her own holiday gifts for family and friends by following the directions in a how-to-book. ● Ask your child to help you write out gift name tags. Use extra-large gift tags for tiny hands. ● Encourage older child to volunteer to read to residents in a local retirement home or hospital to bring some holiday cheer. ● Give a bookstore or online bookstore gift certificate as a holiday present so your child can select a new book on his or her own. Read the book together. ● Visit the library or book store and pick out some holiday favorites for festive family reading all season long!

COVID update Friday, December 11, 2020
Granger ISD recently received notification that a 3rd grade student has been lab confirmed for COVID-19. The student has not been at school since last Monday except for one hour Wednesday morning. We are working closely with Williamson County and Cities Health District (WCCHD) epidemiologists on this matter. With guidance from WCCHD, Granger will ask all third-grade students and teachers to remain off campus next week. Notification has gone out to all parents of the students needing to quarantine and instruction for remoting learning for next week’s classes will be forth coming. Exposure was limited to 3rd grade only. No other close contact for 15 minutes and within 6 feet occurred between the student and other teachers or students. All areas were reviewed by WILCO epidemiologists including arrival, specials, recess, hallway, lunch, dismissal. Granger schools will move its current Campus COVID Stage from a Stage 2 (Mitigation) to a Stage 3 (Modified Camps Operations). We strongly encourage our community to help reduce the spread of this disease by being vigilant with proper social distancing, wearing a mask when outside the home, washing hands multiple times a day, and continue to clean all touch surfaces daily. We thank all the Granger parents, students, and teachers for your support in this matter. We will keep you apprised of further updates.
Sincerely,
Randy Willis
Superintendent
