- Direct attention to the value of art education for divergent and critical thinking.
- Expand art programs in schools and stimulate new art programs.
- Encourage commitment to the arts by students, community organizations, and individuals everywhere.
- Provide additional opportunities for individuals of all ages to participate in creative art learning.
- Increase community, business and governmental support for art education.
- Increase community understanding and interest in art and art education through involvement in art exhibits, workshops, and other creative ventures.
- Reflect and demonstrate the goals of the National Art Education Association that work toward the improvement of art education at all levels." (CFAE)

In a collaborative effort between Kirsten Mandsager's Astronomy class and Mona Morrissey's Graphic design class, students created ideas for a Cubesat patch contest sponsored by Wichita State after their CubeSat study on Neutrinos was chosen by NASA. https://www.wichita.edu/about/wsunews-releases/2021/11-nov/_documents/CubeSatR_3.php
Rylee and her collaborator, Zoe "Cassius" O'Brien-Stiner came up with the first-place design, the third-place design was designed by Samantha Chestnut, and the fourth-place design was by Cora Ambrose, both from Topeka High.
Now that Rylee's designs with edits have been received, there will soon be an official press release from Wichita State University and NASA that includes the image of the winning design. Here is the press release from Ad Astra foundation http://adastra-ks.org/
Rylee's design will be made into the official patch to be worn by NASA engineers and mission staff.
Congratulations Rylee and Cassius!

Hello cello day!
Linear Learning: Mrs. Diaz's Fifth Grade Project!
For art integration, the fifth-graders learned how different types of lines are used. They learned that lines have direction and different types of lines can represent emotions. In small groups, they brainstormed poses that could represent the line variations they studied. Then, using the cameras of their iPads, they documented their poses and even took photos of everyday objects, such as the playground equipment, to identify lines. Afterwards, they each chose their best photo to create a fine composition with editing tools and then wrote an informational passage describing the lines portrayed in their photographs.
