School Happenings
Bucks County IU "FAB LAB" Comes to Butler!
The Bucks County Intermediate Unit (Bucks IU) brought their Mobile Fab Lab (Fabrication Laboratory) – one of only 50 in the entire United States - to Butler Elementary the week of January 27th. Funded by a PAsmart Advancing Grant, this program provided “STEAM Education on the Go” with their digital fabrication learning experiences for our students in grades 3-5. (STEAM = Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math)
This interactive, innovative program had students thinking, creating, discussing, and sharing in ways that educationally interacts with the special equipment brought to school – most of which is outside the scope of what they may normally have an opportunity to ever utilize. The students were challenged with projects that stimulated and encouraged learning about digital fabrication through exploration and experience.
**There were over 300,000 STEM/STEAM related jobs in Pennsylvania in 2018, and nearly 17,000 of those jobs went unfilled! This Mobile Fab Lab will help introduce students to these types of careers that match (not only the workforce demands of today, but...) the expanded needs projected for these areas in the future!
Even 6-ABC News filmed the event highlighting several Butler staff and students on what was learned throughout the week! To watch the news video, click here!

Music and Mindfulness
Jamie Enders - an instructor from Doylestown - joined Mrs. Rudolph’s 1st grade class to share how to have a mindful body and how to use instruments (like chimes and a singing bowl) to focus their mind. They also discussed sharing kind intentions with their friends and classmates. Additionally, Ms. Enders attended one of our "Annie, Jr." Musical rehearsals and gave our young actors/actresses tips to help calm their nerves to soothe stage fright. They will be implementing these techniques as they continue to prepare for the Musical Performances at the end of March. Thanks to Mrs. Enders for her help in promoting Butler's social/emotional wellness initiatives.

Butler's October/November CB Cares Educational Foundation Boomerang Nominees
In October, Benjamin Pirrello (4th) was nominated as Butler’s building winner for Asset#18: Youth Programs. Ben is a member of the local YMCA and attends their sports camps, is a junior member of the Long Beach Island Fishing Club attending monthly meetings and fishes in at least 12 tournaments a year. Benjamin’s favorite event is the annual "Hooked on Fishing, Not On Drugs" Derby. Ben is a cub scout, is captain for the Harleysville Eagles football team, and played lacrosse for Upper Perk Lacrosse team. Congratulations Benjamin for showing Teamwork as a Butler Bear!
In November, Anna Granito (6th), was nominated as Butler’s building winner for Asset#24: Positive Peer Influence. Anna was nominated by her friend's mom, Mrs. Walls, a parent of her friend, Tessa. Anna and Tessa have been friends since attending pre-school at Chesterbrook Academy at 3 years old. Mrs. Walls describes Anna as a wonderful peer role model who brings joy and happiness to everything that she does and all those around her, especially to Tessa. She describes the two as “inseparable” because they spend most of their free time together to the point where Mrs. Walls considers her a second daughter. Congratulations Anna for showing Leadership as a Butler Bear!
