Things to Do
- Sign up for recruitment. We strongly encourage you to register by October 1st, but the absolute deadline is November 6th by 5pm and there are NO exceptions if you don't sign up in time! And spread the word -- some people don't know to sign up early.
- Submit a question or concern here anonymously! We really want to hear from you and what you're wondering about! We don't collect names or even contact info from this form, so don't worry.
- Spread the word about this newsletter! If you know people who aren't getting it or my emails, have them sign up here.
- Follow VU Panhellenic and Greek Life on all social media (FB, Twitter, Insta: links below in Resources) You'll get more info about upcoming things to do and attend, what chapters are doing, and updates of the Greek community at large--important for your entire time at Vandy.
- Read the first newsletter here if you haven't already.
- Last but definitely not least: Relax, enjoy Freshman year, keep up with your academics! :)

Mythbusters
Don't pay attention to these common myths below! If you hear them around campus, keep these truths in mind. Don't be scared by any crazy rumors you hear -- they're circulated by misinformation and they're false!
- It doesn't matter when I register for recruitment. Do you see all the reminders all over this newsletter and the last to register now?! It's important because it'll get you into a Gamma Chi group sooner and you'll be able to meet with them earlier. You'll get more tips, advice, clarifications, and other benefits than those who register at the last minute. We put a lot of effort into this GX program. GX's become your friends and guides, and PNM's have always been incredibly thankful for their GX at the end of the recruitment process. Trust me, spread the word: register now.
- If I know a bunch of girls in XYZ sorority, I'll definitely get a bid there. Well, that's just wrong. No one girl or even a group of girls can make decisions for the whole chapter. Just knowing sorority women doesn't guarantee anything. Of course, we encourage you to meet and talk to our members, but only to get to know our community and get a feel for the chapters. It can help you to know a few, but the word "guarantee" should never be bounced around.
- If I'm a legacy for one chapter, it'll hurt my chances of getting a bid from a different chapter. No, being a legacy can help you with that chapter (but again, not guarantee), but it won't "block you out" from other chapters. If there's a true mutual connection, your legacy status won't matter to them! It's just an accessory to the process, not a determinant.
- I am being judged right now about what I wear, who I hang out with, if I go out or not. Nooooo! We are values-based organizations, not image-based organizations! I guarantee you no one's going around making little notes of what you're doing. 1.) That's weird 2.) that's way too much work 3.) we don't care that much. We want to know you--your personality and who you are. As long as you don't wear really weird things (please don't wear your "going out on the town" outfit to formal recruitment rounds) or never venture outside, we're not keeping track of your image or what you do. Just be nice, social, and relaxed--as you can. We know it can seem like a lot most of the time.
Gamma Chi Program Reminder
See our last newsletter here for a full description of the GX program.
You'll only be assigned a Gamma Chi group AFTER you register online for recruitment, so do this ASAP! If you've already registered (yay), you'll be assigned a GX group early in October, so look out for that.
Common questions
- What happens if I absolutely cannot be at a formal recruitment round (Vandy athletics, family event, interview)? If this happens, contact me, Lauren Brooks, ASAP about this. Greek Life & I will decide if this is an excused absent or not (those listed above would likely be, where "birthday" or "concert" would not be). I will then contact the chapters about your un/excused absence. However, even if your absence is excused, it is still up to the chapters' discretion about whether they invite you back or not. Thus, if you miss for any reason, there is no guarantee about how your recruitment process will look. This is not to frighten you, but just to emphasize how important attendance is at all events.
- What do I do if I'm having technical difficulties with registering for recruitment online? Email me, not the Vanderbilt Greek Life email address, and we'll get your problem figured out.
- What do I do if an active sorority woman asks to friend me on Facebook? We'll assume this was a mistake, but please contact me. This is very serious if done intentionally and is against our Panhellenic recruitment rules. Some women are allowed to interact with you on social media (such as VUCeptors) but only within their Vanderbilt roles. This might be the case, but it might not be, so the best thing to do is reach out to me.
