Snowman Contest!
Our Snowman Contest is winding down and I am always so impressed by students creativity! Any last minute entries need to be received by Monday, February 3rd and winners will be announced the second week of February.
What Happened in the Library this Month??
Kindergarten
Kindergarten has continued to vote for their favorite book in the WCCPBA Bracket Tourney.
1st Grade
1st grade has continued to learn Trickster Tales from Around the World. So far we have read tales from Asia, Africa, North America and South America. Two more to go!
2nd Grade
2nd grade has started the WCCPBA Bracket Tourney! We will read all 16 nominees and vote on our favorite.
3rd Grade
3rd grade had their last digital citizenship lesson on searching smart and safely. We learned how internet searches work, how to use keywords to find what we want and had a google competition to see which table team could answer trivia questions the fastest!
4th Grade
4th grade has started a new unit - The Mystery Animal Project. Students will access a KCLS database, take notes on an animal and then create a guessing game for their classmates to play. This is a long project but always a lot of fun!
5th Grade
Students are finishing up their Battle of the Books. Teams are now facing off to answer trivia questions based on the books they read. Which Table team will be victorious??? :)
World Read Aloud Day - Wednesday, February 5th!
I am very excited that next Wednesday is World Read Aloud Day! This is a world wide event to promote reading aloud to children (which, of course, I am a big fan of!). Authors and Illustrators also offer free Skype visits on this day so I decided to go all out this year and schedule Skype visits for every grade level. Here is the list of authors/illustrators lined up for next week:
Kindergarten - Nidhi Chanani
1st Grade - Bea Birdsong and Mark Hoffmann
2nd Grade - Monica Carnesi
3rd Grade - Emma Wunsch
4th Grade - Jill Diamond
5th Grade - Kim Ventrella
I hope it is a meaningful experience for students. It is always so inspiring to talk to authors and illustrators! One student commented just yesterday: "Wow, I have never Facetimed with a celebrity before!" . Take some time next week Wednesday to read an extra book aloud if you can in honor of the special day!
