LMS Tiger Talk
April 21, 2023
Principal's Message
We had a successful first week of Ohio State Testing this week, with our students completing both parts of the English/Language Arts reading and writing assessment. Our students and staff did an awesome job, and I heard many students talking about how good and prepared they felt about the test. Next week we'll continue Ohio State Testing, with all students taking the math test on Monday and Tuesday, and 8th grade students taking the science test on Thursday. 7th grade students will be piloting the science MAP assessment on Thursday while our 8th graders take their science OST. We appreciate our student's hard work and concentration during these tests which provide us with important data and insight regarding their learning and development.
I want to encourage any and all parents, guardians, family friends, community members, etc. to consider signing up for the NEW 7th grade LMS Career Day which will be happening on Weds, 5/17 from 8-10 am! This event will provide our students a chance to learn about a variety of different job and careers options, and supports our student career and college readiness plan. If you or someone you know might be interested in spending time with our awesome students, please sign up here! More information on this event can be found below. Thank you for helping us to spread the word!
Thank you, all, and have a great weekend!
Take care and Go Tigers!

LMS Career Day - We need your help!
In support of our student's exploration of career fields that may be of interest to them for their future, and as a piece of our comprehensive career and college readiness plans here at LMS, we are excited to announce that we will be hosting a Career Day this year for our 7th-grade students on Weds, May 17th. This event will also include our 8th-grade students who are not traveling to Washington DC which will be taking place during this time.
Our goal for the event is to offer a diverse mix of options of jobs and careers for our students to learn about, and we are looking for parents, family members, or other local community members who are interested in presenting to our students about their current job or career. For the event, students will be able to choose from a list of presentations to attend. Students will choose four presentations to attend which will last for 25 minutes each. If you are interested in presenting about your job, we would love to have you come to be a part of our Career Day! Please fill out this form by Friday, May 5th to indicate your interest. We appreciate your willingness to come to spend time with our amazing students!
If you have any questions, please reach out to Drews Mitchell, Career and College Counselor (mitchedr@lovelandschools.org), or David Knapp, LMS Principal (knappda@lovelandschools.org).
Upcoming iSpace Events
Looking for engaging experiences for your student? iSpace is offering several upcoming sessions for our middle school STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) enthusiasts, including:
Building Blocks of the World Around You: This FREE STEM event is for girls in Grades 5-8 and takes place Friday, April 28th at 6-8pm. The "Building Blocks of the World Around You" event is hosted by GE at their Aviation Learning Center. Students will join the materials engineers at GE Aerospace to experience how the materials work that make up our world. They will also find out about the physics behind different materials like metals, polymers, and composites -- including how they break. Students will then have the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned about materials to a design challenge. While students are engaged in this STEM learning opportunity, parents/guardians/teachers are invited to attend a special parallel program, "Supporting Girls in STEM," during the event. Click this link for more information and to sign up for Girls in STEM GE Event.
ART-gineering: TART-gineering is for 6th-8th grade students. The focus is having STEM and artistry intersect. Students tap into their creativity to conceptualize and design innovative ideas and inventions. The weeklong camp is packed with hands-on activities where they learn special drawing techniques and showcase amazing inspirations by building beautiful prototype models. Whether they want to design a bridge, home, toy, or something brand new, students will use the engineering design process to bring their ideas to life. Click this link for more information and to sign up for ART-gineering at iSPACE.

YouScience - 8th Grade Career Tool
Our eighth grade social studies teachers led the students through YouScience during class over the last two days. This terrific aptitude based career tool allows the students to play "brain games" that weigh natural strengths. Upon conclusion, the students can then weigh both interests and aptitudes when thinking about future plans. This brief video can help to explain how to make the most of this opportunity - Using YouScience
Please take some time over the next few weeks to review the results with your student. We trust that the information will be helpful as they continue to consider finding success after high school. Feel free to reach out with any questions. We are happy to help!
