“LEs MIS” ON STAGE THIS WEEK
PEACE POLE DEDICATION
The Chandler Rotary and CHS’s Interact Club, a service club involved in numerous community projects throughout the year, hosted a Peace Pole Dedication Ceremony last Friday in the courtyard. The ceremony included a history of the project, “Let Peace Prevail on Earth” sung by the Advanced Women’s Choir, student definitions of Peace, and “May Peace Prevail on Earth” communicated in nine languages. Special thanks to Ms. Rhea Spears and Holly Hoogstra, Interact President, for such a special ceremony.
HISEF AWARDS
Congratulations to the following students who competed and came away with awards at the Hamilton Invitational Science and Engineering Fair: Aryan Mathur 2nd place in Robotics, Cassandra Smith 3rd place in Biology, and Isha Paode (pictured with Mrs. Katie Nash) earned Honorable Mention in Chemistry. Well done!
WINTERGUARD AND PERCUSSION
Congratulations to CHS Winterguard on earning 2nd place in their division this weekend at Barry Goldwater HS. Percussion also performed their opening exhibition and was very well received. Great job, Wolves!

HOSA SPORTS MED
CHS’S HOSA Sports Medicine was represented at the Chandler Innovation Fair this past Saturday. Students Amelia Sikalu (12), Faith Johnson (12), Charlie Willers (12) and Kazi Hasin (11) competed against other HOSA Sports Medicine teams from the district in events such as quiz bowl, recognition of types of injuries, and taping.
AVID SPREADS KINDNESS
CHS AVID students worked with Frye Elementary students last week and urged 4th graders to take action to be kind on their campus as part of the Youth Frontiers program.
IB AND AP STUDENTS AT KGA
Last week, 20 Chandler IB Diploma candidates and AP Spanish students served the children of our community and made great connections at the KGA 5th Grade Kindness Retreat.
LINK CREW MAKING CONNECTIONS
CHS’s Link Crew helped Ryan Elementary students learn leadership skills last week through Youth Frontiers.
ARIZONA SPEAKER SERIES
Twenty-five CHS students had the opportunity to hear astronaut Scott Kelly speak at Comerica Theater in downtown Phoenix last week. He was part of the Arizona Speakers Series. Other notable speakers throughout the year included Sanjay Gupta, Condoleezza Rice, and Joe Biden.
TEEN TOWN HALL
Last Thursday, students attended the 10th annual Teen Town Hall hosted by the Chandler Mayor’s Youth Commission. Students attended workshops on three trending topics that affect youth and teens in today’s society: Mental Health and Wellness, Teen Dating Violence, and Life Skills. They also participated in teambuilding activities and heard from the City of Chandler’s Mayor Kevin Hartke.
HEALTH AND WELLNESS PROGRAM
On Tuesday, February 19th, the Chandler High School Health and Wellness Program hosted a presentation for parents and teens about the facts and dangers of VAPING. Erica Mansure, from the Arizona Attorney General's Office, gave an eye-opening and informative presentation and answered many questions from the audience about VAPING.
On Tuesday, March 26th, from 6-7pm at the Chandler Center for the Arts, we will be hosting the same presentation in Spanish. Please help us share the message about the dangers of vaping with your neighbors and friends!
NHS APPLICATIONS
CHS Sophomores, Juniors, & Seniors with a 3.25 GPA and above are eligible to apply for National Honor Society. NHS applications have been sent to all eligible students via English classes. Students who have not received an application and believe they are eligible, should see Mrs. Taranec in room 116. All applications are due to the front office by Thursday, February 28.
ROTARY SPEECH COMPETITION
CHS is holding auditions on Wednesday, March 6th, for The Rotary Four Way Test Speech Contest to be held on April 9th. Interested students should check out the Rotary Speech information, and turn in the interest form at the bottom to their English teacher or Mrs. Templeton by Wednesday, February 27th. There is a nominal monetary prize for participants.
PENNIES FOR PATIENTS
CHS’s National Honor Society (NHS) is sponsoring a change drive to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Arizona. Students are encouraged to drop their coins in the designated box in their 2nd hour class. There are great incentives including Mr. Rother eating a ghost pepper. Join the Hero Squad and support this great cause!

You must complete the Google Form Application and attend an interview BEFORE Friday, March 1st, to be considered.
