Message from Mr. Hearn (Interim Principal)
Hello Westgate Families,
The end of the school year is right around the corner, and with it plenty of warm temps and blue skies! This is the perfect time to ensure that your student is getting time in nature. Being in green spaces has been shown to decrease stress, increase self-esteem, reduce anxiety, improve mood, reduce symptoms of ADHD, and speed healing. Many medical experts are now considering time spent in the natural world to be a powerful and essential part of good health. Physicians are even writing prescriptions for getting outdoors.
Time in nature doesn’t have to mean a trek in the wilderness. You can sit on a park bench, take a walk on the beach, or check out the neighborhood. Gardening counts too! You can even start with opening a window and listening to the birds sing. For our children the past year has meant stress, uncertainty, and many hours spent indoors looking at screens. Many of our students report symptoms of anxiety and depression. This summer you can help your child reset and recover by being in the natural world.
Summer Meal Program: Edmonds School District will continue to offer free meals all summer through the Summer Meal Program.
Student Chromebooks: Student will keep their Chromebooks over the summer unless they are moving out of district.
