Wrap for the Holidays!

The holidays are finally here!! Take time to be with family and friends, recharge and rest. My schedule will continue in the new year: Kempsville Elementary Tuesday and Thursday's and Kempsville Meadows Elementary Wednesday and Friday's, alternating schools on Mondays. View my schedule here . January I will be focusing on Digital Citizenship, portfolios and process logs.

Enjoy the time off and see you in the new year!

Hour of Code

The Week of December 7 - 13 was Computer Science in Education Week. The highlight of this celebration was the "Hour of Code". This event was held worldwide. There were over 72,074 schools participating including Kempsville and Kempsville Meadows Elementary. I was able to work with each grade level to do some basic coding with the Coding Cafe at Kempsville Elementary and with classes at KMES. Coding is not just about programming, students learn how to look at things analytically and break down items into smaller pieces. Check out https://hourofcode.com/us for coding opportunities all year long.

Megabyte Mondays

Megabyte Mondays are informal 15-20 minute sessions introducing emerging technologies for your instruction. Each session is divided into 2 parts to accommodate busy schedules. The first half is direct instruction, the second half is hands on deeper learning. If you have a great tool you are using let me know and we can present to the group together!

Integration Innovators

If you are interesting in joining a team of teachers to lead and support technology integration and learn more about how to weave personalized learning and multiple pathways into your classroom, join us to sound off and share ideas about how to better utilize technology with the resources we have. Over the course of the year we will address hot topics, trends and develop strategies to better support our peers and students. In January we will be targeting Google Classroom as an opportunity for teachers.

Hot Apps

Seesaw

Seesaw is a student-driven digital portfolio that empowers students to independently document what they are learning at school and upload to their e portfolio. Teachers can easily set up their class and access student work from any device.
