HEMLOCK MIDDLE SCHOOL
Feb. 13th - Feb. 19th
Weekly Update from our Superintendent
Our Huskie Pack continues to make solid progress as we work together to make our mission and vision to innovate, collaborate, educate our community of learners become a reality.
This week marks our 23rd week of school and it is exciting to report that our winter sports competitive season started this past Monday, and our student-athletes are off to a great season, albeit abbreviated.
Another week and it continues to be exciting to report that we have not had any new school-related cases of COVID-19 or school-related quarantines since our return to school after the holiday break. However, we do have a couple of students/staff quarantining for non-school related COVID-19 issues.
We have examined our February and March calendar and, based on our staff's scheduled second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and have adjusted the schedule as shown below. This provides everyone advance notice to plan accordingly as we are uncertain about the various reactions staff may experience, we have made these days asynchronous.
The amount of support and positive energy from all stakeholders for our school system is outstanding. As I have been blessed with the opportunity to connect and talk with many of you more in-depth in the last couple of weeks, regardless of person or topic, I have found genuine care and support for our students and staff.
Over the last two weeks, we have gathered feedback regarding our 2021-2022 calendar and will be processing that in the coming weeks. Do not hesitate to give me a call at 989.642.5282 or send me an email to killingbeck@hemlockps.com to share your thoughts. Boxes of Love
Dear Families,
Each year our teacher’s union reaches out to support the women and children of the Underground Railroad of Saginaw. The Underground Railroad is a safe haven that provides services for victims of domestic violence, stalking, sexual assault, and human slavery.
Annually, the Underground Railroad of Saginaw provided many valuable services to our community, including:
Providing 14,000 safe nights in a shelter for over 500 women and children
A 24-hour helpline and emergency response program
Childcare and housing assistance
Court support
Advocacy, therapy, and support groups
Each year, our school district collects items to donate to the women and children in need, including:
full-size bottles of shampoo & conditioner
deodorant
hair ties, accessories, and products
toothpaste and toothbrushes
full-size lotions or body sprays
soaps and body washes
feminine hygiene items
Other hygiene/self-care items...
We will be collecting items to donate from February 1st - 15th. Items can be dropped off in the office. Thank you for your continuing support of our community and families in need.
Respectfully, Hemlock Federation of Teachers

HMS SCHOOL PICTURES HAVE BE UPLOADED!!!
School pictures can be purchased by going to https://shop.jostenspix.com/login and logging in with a parent email. (This email address should match what we have at the school) If the email matches, then the students picture will pop right up!
If a parent logs in with a different email address, it will then prompt for the student's Skyward ID number. (This should only happen if the parent uses a different email then what we have on file at school.)
You can personalize your pictures, pay for them and then they will be shipped directly to your home!
Richland Township Park News
The ice rink is ready to enjoy and plowed. Weather permitting it should stay good for a while. The Park Supervisor has programmed the lights to come on from 5:30pm - 10:00pm.
Enjoy and stay safe.
Breakfast and Lunch is FREE to all students
Fun things are happening this week.............check these out!!!
National Jell-O Week - Feel free to set your kitchen timer on “jiggle" anytime. Just break out the decorative molds and have a party.
National Kraut & frankfurter week - Cook up a big juicy hot dog, pile on the sour cabbage. This week celebrates the traditional German meal. Yumm!
Random Acts of Kindness week (this one is my favorite) - No act of kindness is too big or too small, so here is a list of things to help you get started......
- Pay for the coffee or meal of the person in front of you in line.
- Leave a kind note for someone, no explanation needed.
- Share words of encouragement. You never know who might need them.
- Put your skills to work for someone in need. For example, offer to create a résumé for someone seeking a new job.
- Drop off a load of groceries at the local food pantry.
- Mail a “thinking of you” card to someone you’ve not to talk to in a while.
- Order a bouquet of flowers to be delivered to anyone in the hospital. That means, call the florist and tell them to pick a hospital or nursing home and deliver flowers to the person the front desk thinks needs it the most. It could be a sick child, an elderly person with no family or college student down on their luck.
- Send a thank you note to the local fire department, police departments or any military personnel.
- Just smile.
Random Acts of HUSKIE Kindness go a long way!!
