Panther Post
Oct. 22nd - Oct. 27th
Hello Lopez Families,
Enough with the rain already! Last Tuesday I stood in the windy, cold rain watching our 8th grade football team whip up on Tejeda. The Tejeda principal and I were reminiscing about the day the two of us coached against each other many years ago when I was at Eisenhower and he was at Bradley. It was low 40's, windy and an absolute downpour. Probably the coldest I had ever been. Crazy thing was that the kids never once complained, they just wanted to compete; same was true for this Tuesday. I love the dedication and the memories.
Pictured below, on the left, is our amazing cafeteria staff. The one on the right, holding up the sign, is Daisy Galdamez, our cafeteria manager. They are showing off their perfect score on their health inspection. Daisy runs a tight ship! They also put out some really good food. I eat in there a couple of times a week with the kids and I am always impressed. Whether it's the carnitas street tacos or chicken and waffles for breakfast, it never disappoints. These ladies are incredible and are some of the nicest people I know.
Pictured below on the right is parents Alix Allen and Karin Monreal helping serve our staff luncheon by the PTA. Thank you PTA, we really appreciated it. It was so good!
Sorry for all the food pics, but below all of that is a picture of the brisket my lovely PTA bought me for bosses day. I threw it on my Big Green Egg and it turned out incredible. Thank you!!!
Sincerely,
Mr. Wernli

LEAD CONNECTION
Put First Things First
People who do not set priorities may miss important assignments, appointments and get behind on their homework or work responsibilities. If we take care of the most important things first and plan ahead, everything else can fit into our schedule. In our lives, we need to remember to set priorities, be disciplined and follow-through.
Everyone Has genius:
Dear Lopez Families
Celebrating each other achievements is rewarding. Lopez Middle School dedicates a display celebrating student genius. If your child is involved in something outside of school, we would love to celebrate with them and share with others. Please send in a picture of your child participating in the activity and we will add it to our display. Ex. Karate, charity work-volunteering, horseback riding, mountain biking, gymnastics.
Please share your photos by emailing them to Mr. Toback at ftobac@neisd.net or by bringing developed pictures to Lopez Middle School. The pictures can be grayscale or color. They will be displayed inside the school for all to enjoy. (they will not be returned)
LOPEZ PALS
Lopez Panthers,
The Lopez Junior Peer Assistance and Leadership (Jr. PALS) is a program in which our Lopez PALS (8th grade students) are trained to work as helpers with 6th grade students ((PALee) a student with academic, social or emotional concerns). One of the goals of the PALS is to assist younger students have a positive and productive experience here at Lopez. The PAL students can play a very valuable role in helping our 6th grade students (PALee) meet the challenges and decisions they face as they go through school.
The Lopez Jr. PALS will be working on a weekly basis with 6th grade students (PALee), students who are recommended by teachers, administrators, counselors, and parents.
If you have a 6th grader that you feel would benefit from working with a Lopez PAL please send me the child's name and why you would recommend him/her to be a 6th grade PALee. I will then touch base with you to discuss the needs of your child in more detail. You can print out or I will send home a permission form to be signed. If you have a name to submit, please e-mail by Wednesday, October 24th - mvolz@neisd.net.
If you have any questions or need further information, please feel free to contact me.
Thank you,
Melissa Volz
