Reminder of Behavior Expectations a Games/Events
As we start the winter season, I want to remind everyone of WESCO spectator guidelines. Please review these and assist the Administration in ensuring we follow all these expectations.
- I will cheer for my team only.
- I will refrain from calling out names or numbers from the opposing team.
- I will appreciate all good plays and players, whether they compete for my team or my opponent.
- I will remember that school athletics are an extension of the classroom and that learning is taking place.
- I will be positive and use respectful language towards players, coaches, officials, and other spectators.
- I will respect the abilities and sensitivities of our opponents and officials, regardless of the outcome of the contest.
- I will remember that my actions reflect on others, including students, school, and the community.
I appreciate everyone following these expectations.
Sincerely,
Mike Washington

A Few Reminders
Drop Off and Pick Up
Students may only be dropped off and picked up in our Main parking lot off of 272nd. Please DO NOT use the lower parking lot to drop off and pick up your student, that area is for busses and staff only. Thank you!
Eating in the library
To keep the library as clean as possible, students will not be allowed to eat lunch in the library. Before heading to the library, students will need to stay in the cafeteria, finish their lunch, and then go to the library.
Payments in the Office
Just a reminder that we cannot take payments from students during class time. We can take payments before and after school and during lunches. If you have a Running Start or Lincoln High student, we can accept payments before class or before they leave campus. Parents can pay at any time during the day (the register is closed between 12:30 and 1:15 pm). Parents/Guardians can pay online at any time by selecting the Online Payments button on our webpage. Thank you!
Is your student struggling? When are teachers available for assistance?
Students who are struggling are strongly encouraged to ask their teachers for assistance. Teachers are available for extra support from 7:10 am to 7:40 am and 2:10 pm to 2:40 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays and 8:30 am to 9:00 am and 2:10 pm to 2:40 pm on Wednesdays. Students should work with teachers to schedule time.
Staff By Department
Attendance (EVERY DAY COUNTS)
We understand that students miss school for various reasons, many of which cannot be predicted or prevented. However, research shows that missing even 10 percent of school, or about 18 days in a year, can negatively impact a student's performance.
If your child is experiencing mental, emotional, or physical health issues that result in excessive (more than two in a month) or long-term absences, please get in touch with their counselor, the school nurse, or an administrator for assistance.
When students are absent, it is essential to excuse your students' absences within 72 hours of the student's return to school.
Please use the below process:
- Parents and guardians may excuse absences by calling the attendance secretary at 360-629-1305, through Absence Notification using their Family Access password, by emailing kmccurry@stanwood.wednet.edu, or by sending a note to the attendance office with the student.
- Messages on notes, voicemail, or email should include the first AND last name of the student, the date of the absence, the reason for the absence, and the parent or guardian's signature.
- Stanwood High School defines excused absences as due to illness, appointment, or family business.
- Oversleeping, car trouble, traffic congestion, and missing the bus are not considered excused absences.
- If the student has classes at Stanwood High School AND Lincoln Hill High School, you must contact BOTH schools to excuse absences.

WESCO Spectator Guidelines & Sportsmanship Code
The essential elements of character-building and ethics in interscholastic athletics are embodied in the concept of seven core principles: sportsmanship, discipline, leadership, teamwork, responsibility, dedication, and respect. To demonstrate sportsmanship in the stands, we ask all spectators to adhere to these 5 basic guidelines:
- I will appreciate all good plays and players, whether they compete for my team or my opponent.
- I will remember that school athletics are an extension of the classroom and that learning is taking place.
- I will be positive and use respectful language towards players, coaches, officials, and other spectators.
- I will respect the abilities and sensitivities of our opponents and officials, regardless of the outcome of the contest.
- I will remember that my actions reflect on others, including students, school, and the community.
