ADVISING ORACLE
February 2022
Personnel Roundup
New Team Members in the Exploratory Center
The Exploratory Center welcomed several new hires to our team at the end of the Fall 2022 semester, as well as, experienced some transitions of positions within our office.
New to the Intended Business advising team are Anna Hemmati, Nick Hummel, Sloan Murray, and Train Wu. Anna is new to advising, but is well acquainted with the UGA campus as an alum. Nick has been a part of the EC team as the front desk manager for the past two years while working on his masters degree and has transitioned well to our advising team. Sloan previously worked as an advisor within the UGA Office of Financial Aid and has made the switch to work with students academically. Train is new to UGA, but has a great deal of campus experience from advising out of state.
Our Explore advising team has expanded as well! Nathan Carlson, Taylor Clodfelter, and Courtney Kichefski are our newest advisors that will be working with exploring and undecided students. Nathan is joining us after working within the UGA Office of the Registrar. Taylor has been a part of our EC team since last summer as our administrative associate. After spending hours working with Explore students this past semester, she's made the transition to the role of advisor. Courtney has been a part of the EC team since 2020 as an Intended Business advisor and has transitioned wonderfully to the Explore team.
We are so excited to welcome all of these new advisors to our team. If you'd like to reach out or just put a face to a name, check out our website here: https://advising.uga.edu/exploratory-center/advisors/

Resources Spotlight
Let’s Talk Transfers!
Spring 2022 we started a series of conversations called Let’s Talk Transfers. The goal of these sessions is to get us more connected across campus around transfer questions, research topics, and transfer concerns so we become even better advocates for transfer students.
These sessions allow us to create space and time to gather as colleagues to discuss topics relating to transfer students from our corner of the University. They are hosted and led by campus partners who share literature, research, personal stories, and new ideas around these topics. The meeting space is in the host’s college and coffee and snacks are provided.
These conversations are in addition to the Transfer Discussion Group meetings and will be more focused on a specific unit’s engagement with transfer students. Kindly find the meeting times, hosts, and colleges below.
• Thursday, 3/17 at 11 am: Matthew Head, Warnell
• Monday, 4/4 at 11 am: Aimee Dowd, FACS
Your participation in these conversations is paramount to their success. Please commit to joining us, hosting, or organizing future conversations. Please send your RSVP to Litashia Carter if you plan to attend any of the above sessions lscarter@uga.edu.
Discussion Group Updates
AACC Transfer group meeting on February 19th
We heard from Dr. Jan Barham, Taylor Eubanks and Mackenzie White of the Office of Transitions on the development of their Interactive Student Transition Guide (https://transitions.uga.edu/students/)
Litashia Carter shared her USG core-to-core Transfer Credit Process Guide with a goal of creating an interactive guide for this tool, perhaps as a component of a broader Transfer Evaluation Guide. If you are interested in joining a working group to develop these tools, please email Katherine Fields (kfield@uga.edu).
We ended our meeting sharing goals for communication with our prospective and incoming transfer students, and we'll add that to our plan for the next meeting.
