NOTRE DAME CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL
17 February 2022

Dear Parents and Staff
Whilst the whole Covid-19 saga has been difficult for us all to navigate, there are times when it has presented us with challenges that have, ultimately, made me very proud to be part of this community. The cancellation of the Year Six Camp has provided me with one of these times as, rather than accept the situation as a lost cause, our staff have stepped up and organised a week of excellent activities that will more than compensate for the disappointment of not attending camp. Whilst the Year Six parents have been kept informed about the week, I think it is important that I share the outline of the planned activities so you are all aware of the wonderful work of our Year Six Staff and the Leadership Team.

DROP OFF AND PICK UP
It has got to Week 3, and I can’t hold back from reminding parents about the dangers of stopping in the street to drop off and or pick up their children. We have very efficient options for both drop off and pick up that operate through the Parish carpark which are supervised each day by school staff. Please don’t put your child’s safety in danger by continuing this very dangerous practice. None of us would want to bear the burden of being responsible for our child/ren being injured due to our negligence. Please either park legally to drop off and pick up children or use the drive through options supervised by the school staff.
DADS’ & KIDS’ CAMPOUT
Unfortunately, this event is another victim of the recently implemented regulations. At this stage, the Dads’ & Kids’ Campout will be postponed and we hope to be able to hold it at a later date in the year if the regulations and the weather allow this to occur. In the meantime, there is still the option to hold your own Campout with some of your friends, just not at the school.
MERIT AWARDS
As I informed you in last week’s newsletter, we will not be holding Class Performance Assemblies during this Term and that we will be increasing the number of Merit Assemblies. These are the dates of the Merit Awards Assemblies for the remainder of Term 1.
- Thursday 3 March
- Friday 11 March
- Friday 25 March
- Friday 8 March
COMMITMENT MASSES FOR RECONCILIATION
Whilst these have been scheduled for the weekend of 26 & 27 February, Mrs Bradshaw will be attending a meeting this afternoon to determine whether these will proceed and, if so, what the date and format will be. Mrs Bradshaw will contact the parents enrolled to make the Sacrament of Penance over the next few days with an update.

FEE STATEMENTS FOR 2022
Statements have now been emailed to all families with the school fees for 2022.
Please contact administration if you have not yet received your statement so we can provide a copy.
Included with the statement was a Payment Options Advice form. There are quite a few payment options available for families to select from with all payment plans commencing on 28 February 2022. Could you please complete and return this information to administration prior to this date to enable us to set up requested direct debit plans to commence by 28 February 2022.
Thank you

YEAR 1 CLASS NEWS
We have had an exciting start to the year in Year 1. The children have settled in beautifully and are getting used to the routines of ‘big school’. Just when we thought we were getting used to a routine – along comes two weeks of fun swimming lessons
We have been learning about choices and how some choices are easy and some are difficult. We have discussed who can help us make good choices, like Jesus did. When we have difficult choices to make we can ask for God’s help by praying. We have discussed how we can pray like Jesus did.
We have taken a reading book home for the first time this week and look forward to reading our books to our families every night. We are learning our weekly spelling sound by doing different activities every day. We have also been practising writing a recount and trying to include the details of who, what, when and where.
We have had fun making numbers with MAB blocks. Did you know that the 1 in teens numbers actually means one lot of ten? Whilst we have been practising this we have also tried writing our numbers correctly so we do not reverse them!
This week our news topic is sharing about our family. We love hearing about how different our families are and seeing wonderful photos of the times we share together as a family.
