Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 19th May 2017
Travels Near and Far
Experiencia Española
They have had a busy time in Segovia which we are looking forward to hearing all about when they arrive back in school on Monday. They were honoured to receive an offical welcome in the town hall to celebrate the special links between the twinned schools. They have enjoyed lessons and sport with their new friends, as well as sight seeing and tapas. How fantastic!
refugee journeys
Mrs Denney led dramatic worship sessions to introduce Christian Aid Week to the children. The charity supports people who are in extreme need including refugees. Mrs Denney reminded us that when Jesus was still a baby he became a refugee as his parents had to flee to Egypt to escape King Herod's wrath. Christians keep this in mind to do their best to help everyone in need.
A tent also appeared in school this week. Serving as a visual reminder of the challenges faced by refugees it is also being used as a prayer space for children. The children have sat and reflected on the plight of refugees and written their own prayers of thanks and hope. Year 4's Welcome Worship for their parents was on the theme of urban refugees.
How does our garden grow?
The year 3 class continue to work hard in the garden. This week they have weeded the onion bed, planted the sweet peas that they grew from seed and earthed up the potatoes.
The children are extra excited because, thanks to the Friends of the school and Colin's hard work, the greenhouse has arrived and is ready for action.
Bringing the curriculum to life
Qualified Teaching Assistant Vacancies
As announced last week, we are delighted to announce that the Governing Body has given their full support to extending the Nursery day and childcare availability from September. Details of three staff vacancies can be found on our website by clicking here and on the NYCC careers site www.northyorks.gov.uk/Jobs-and-careers
In conjunction with the longer nursery day, we also intend to run a breakfast club and after school childcare for main school children. An advert for one qualified Teaching Assistant will appear soon.
do you work in science, technology or engineering?
A big thank you to one parent who has already volunteered but we would love to hear from anyone else who would be interested and willing to come into school to support and inspire our pupils. Perhaps you might like to bring in some resources to demonstrate or to talk with pupils about the route you took to reach your position in science, technology or engineering.
We are particularly interested in ensuring that our curriculum enthuses our children and prepares them for the world we live in.
If you are interested or have any questions please contact Mr Richardson. Thank you.
Reading on the up!
One lucky child who has read five times or more during the week (or 5 if the class achieves 100%!) is selected by raffle from every class to choose a book from our special collection to take home and keep (and read!). It's great to see so many classes over 90% - Year 1 in particular have really been improving over the past few weeks, well done.
