Principal's notes:
It's been a pretty great start to the school year so far considering the number of changes many students and staff are experiencing. We've adopted a slightly new daily-schedule with the addition of Homerooms/PAWS where many classroom interruptions are now placed. But, this time is also used for Student Resource Time (SRT) so students can see Guidance, go to the Bookstore or Tech Office, get help from a teacher, etc. We're also excited to be including monthly character lessons into this part of the day as well! We'll see how this first year goes, but we're very excited about this addition to our day.
Secondly, we also adopted a modified-block schedule this year where students are able to see every teacher three times per week eliminating the "off-weeks" from years past when students were only able to see certain teachers twice. These RED days are on Fridays, and we're all still getting used to them but are anticipating positive results with more face-to-face time with teachers each week.
Fall sports are off and running, and I mean RUNNING! Our Cross-country teams recently had an outstanding meet at the Rushville Invitational finishing 1st among all teams present. Considering this is one of the biggest early season meets in the state, we're excited for what our runners may accomplish again this year as both the girls and boys teams made it to semi-state last fall.
Fall Homecoming is fast approaching scheduled for the week of September 19th. The annual parade will take place on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 21st followed by Powder-Puff, and the Homecoming game and crowning ceremonies will be on Friday, September 23rd. We hope that these events will draw great crowds!
Hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable Labor Day weekend!

The Language Arts department would like to welcome Ms. Blakli Nading to the team. She is a 2008 JCHS graduate and a 2012 graduate from Hanover College. She's been teaching and coaching at Brownstown Central Schools the last few years. We're certainly glad to have her home! She is teaching English 10 and helping coach volleyball this fall.
English 9 and 10 teachers are excited about an online grammar program called NoRedInk. We will be trained in the program today and are looking forward to using it with our students.
Math
The JCHS Math Lab has relocated to room 204 for the 2016-2017 school year. The math lab is open to students who are struggling in their math class and for students whose standardized test scores indicate they need remediation. Mr. Eric Wernke is the lab teacher on blue days and Mr. Bobby Burns is the lab teacher on white days. The Math Lab runs in conjunction with PAL, the Panther Academic Lab, which assists students who are failing classes and are in need of academic support. Mrs. Shane Combest is the facilitator of PAL.
Students interested in taking advantage of either of these opportunities to receive help with coursework need to contact their math teacher or guidance counselor for further information.
