Red Hill Lutheran 2019-2020
October Issue
2019-2020 School Theme
Reach, Renew, Rejoice
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
1 Thessalonians 5.16-18
Principal's Corner
I enjoy reading song lyrics, maybe some of you do too. There is a song titled ‘Some Of It’ that contains the following lyrics…
…Money is not rich, everybody sins, and nobody wins in a fight…
…Some of it you learn the hard way, some of it you read on a page, some of it comes from heartbreak, most of it comes with age; and none of it ever comes easy. A bunch of it you maybe cannot use. I know I do not probably know what I think I do, but there is something to some of it…
I find these lyrics interesting in the context of education as well as our Christian faith. Often times, as a student, I wondered ‘why do I need to learn this?’ Certain things just never seemed relevant to my life, but I was still required to learn and study them regardless of what I thought. Looking back, I realize that God has a purpose for everything we experience in life (things we study in school, lessons we learn from social interactions, etc.). “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11). In contrast to the songwriters’ lyrics, ‘All Of It’ is for His purpose and our benefit as a follower of Christ Jesus, even when it does not seem that way to us in the moment. Thanks to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for being in charge of ‘All Of It’ all of the time!
This is an exciting time of the school year. Everyone has settled into a nice routine. Students begin to cover new ground in the classroom, learning new concepts and skills. In the primary grades, students are learning to decode words, read, write and compile sentences and even paragraphs of their own thoughts. Older students are challenged to think in deep and critical ways about topics, and begin to connect previous learning to their emerging thoughts and the larger world around them.
As we move towards our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences at the end of the month of October, I want to thank you for your ongoing prayerful support and partnership with us here at Red Hill Lutheran School. We have an amazing group of teachers and staff members who daily pray for and work hard with your child(ren) to help them learn and be all that they can be with the many gifts God has blessed each of them with.
This time of the year is also an opportunity for parents and students to nominate a teacher they believe does more than just teach, but who gets students excited about learning, teaches life lessons, and consistently goes above and beyond in what they do for each child God has entrusted to their care this school year. The School Heroes nomination process is open now through the end of November. Please prayerfully consider taking time to nominate a teacher you feel is truly a School Hero, by going to Parenting OC’s website https://parentingoc.com/school-heroes/ and clicking on the ‘Click Here to Nominate’ link. You may nominate any teacher or staff member at RHLS. Your child, spouse, relatives, and friends may also enter their own individual nominations (the more the better). You will be asked for the name of the teacher or staff member, their email address and phone number (please use the school phone number of 714-544-3132). You will have 400 words maximum to describe why you feel the teacher or staff member is a Top School Hero in Orange County. I thank you in advance for your time and prayerful consideration of this competitive nomination process for the teachers and staff here at RHLS. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
God’s richest blessings on your family and this month of October.

Vote NOW for Parenting OC Top Teacher & School Heroes
As an RHLS Parent, you have this special invitation to nomination any RHLS Teacher or Employee for School Heroes of OC Schools. As a parent of a child here at RHLS, you know how hard every teacher and staff member works, and can truly appreciate all that each person does to go above and beyond. You know personally what teachers and staff members do to educate, inspire and motivate children to dream. They provide Christian examples, and share with them God's love on a daily basis.
This is an opportunity to tell others how you feel about some of our teachers and staff here at RHLS, and why they should be considered a Top Teacher/School Employee in Orange County (aka a School Hero).
The School Heroes nomination process is open now through the end of November. Please prayerfully consider taking the time to nominate a teacher or staff member you feel is truly a School Hero, by going to Parenting OC’s website https://parentingoc.com/school-heroes/ and clicking on the ‘Click Here to Nominate’ link.
