Intro to Serving English Language Learners (ELLs)
Welcome to EDU 321
Greetings and welcome to EDU 321!
I am looking forward to working with each of you over the next several weeks as we all get to know each other and share ideas about and through writing. This course provides a sufficiently broad yet detailed exposure to the realities of teaching English language learners. The course is designed to prepare students to deliver content area instruction to English language learners with diverse abilities using the sheltered instruction approach.
Each time you log into the classroom, you will arrive at the course home page. Please remember to check for new announcements, as I will be posting important information periodically. Your home page also features a green button labeled “Start Here” below the announcements. Please click on the button for a handy course checklist that will help you get started.
I also recommend familiarizing yourself with the course guide, found in the Course Materials page. This guide contains useful information on what you can expect from this course, as well as a detailed week by week breakdown of what will be expected of you over the course of the next several weeks.
Please check out the column with several links and tabs on the left side of your home page. Take the time to go through the links and tabs and familiarize yourself with course materials, grading, and the course calendar, not to mention student responsibilities and policies. Of key importance is the Faculty Expectations page, which details the late policy as well as what you can expect from me.
Finally, please introduce yourself in the "Post Your Introduction" section, located under week 1. This should be done on the first day of the course.
Remember, everything you need to know about the course is at your fingertips. And when in doubt, contact me! After all, I am here to help you in any way that I can. Feel free to post questions under the Ask Your Instructor link or e-mail me at lyndsey.gresehover1@faculty.ashford.edu. Also, please click on the Meet Your Instructor tab to get to know more about me just as I'll be learning about each of you.
