The Pershing Elementary Newsletter

Principal Message

Hello Pershing Families!

Thank you for your participation this past Wednesday by attending Back-to-School Night on Zoom with our teachers. For those who were unable to attend the meeting, please reach out to your child's teacher by sending an email, or by leaving a message for the teacher at the office, if you have any questions or did not receive handouts from Back-to-School Night.

We follow a regular schedule this week! We have no school on September 6th, the Monday after this week, as it is Labor Day. Please review our calendar of dates and dismissal information below. It has consistently been shared, along with the Bell Schedule, which includes dates for when the schedule changes (see the right side of the image and click the Bell Schedule to open it in a format you can enlarge).

Safety and Health Protocols

The Sacramento County Public Health Department created the "COVID-19 Symptom and Quarantine Decision Forest for K-12 Schools" that includes three "Trees" to assist with decision making to help students, staff, and families stay safe. I have shared it below so that parents can view the guidance we are following. Please use the list on Tree #1 as you symptom screen children each day prior to sending your child to school. If your child was absent, but we do not know the reason for the absence, your child may experience a delay in being allowed to return to class the following day until we can reach you. Please be sure to contact the office, or email PershingAbsence@sanjuan.edu, every time your child is absent. If your child will be absent from Discovery Club, you must also contact them separately, as well.

If your child has a preexisting condition that may have symptoms similar to those on the list on Tree #1, please be sure you have obtained a doctor's note detailing the condition and symptoms, and then symptom screen each day for any symptoms that are new or different from those the child typically experiences. Please contact our office if you have questions.

No Really, Please, Please Label Student Personal Items

Please be sure to label everything with your child's name and room number: lunch boxes, backpacks, inside masks, water bottles, and jackets. When we have a name, we return it quickly!

Please also send your child to school with an extra mask, when possible, as masks often break or need to be swapped out if dirty. Thank you!

Rec Aides (Yard Duty) Positions Posting Soon!

We are in need of two Recreation Aides (yard duty) for Pershing, and the positions will post to edjoin.org very soon. This is a fun and rewarding job where you get a chance to get to know our students, help them enjoy their recess breaks at lunch time, and then help them transition safely back into the classroom for learning. The positions are needed nearly every standard school day for 2 hours each day, from 11a.m. - 1p.m. If you are interested, or have questions about the application process, please email me at kendra.shelton@sanjuan.edu.

Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership! If you have any questions, please reach out to our office at 916-979-8076. Thank you!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Kendra Shelton

Principal
