The Mac Memo
November 2019
News from the Principal
As it's getting colder, please remember that students should dress for the weather! We do go outside when it's cold, so students should be prepared at all times. If you are in need of cold-weather gear, please contact your child's teacher so we can assist.
Parking Lot Safety
Please remember our guidelines to keep all students safe at arrival and dismissal times.
- Students will walk on the sidewalks.
- Cars will not park where the cones are left - this is done so patrol students can see and help keep the crossing safe.
- Cars will not park at the entrance and exits and keep these open for emergencies.
- Students and adults will follow the directions of our Safety Patrol and staff in the lot.
Arrival Procedures
Students may enter the building at 8:30 a.m. if they are eating breakfast or they can line up out front at 8:45 a.m. for morning arrival. All front door arrival students will enter the building at the 8:50 a.m. bell. Students on the bus will be able to eat breakfast when they arrive.
Magnet Applications
If you are a current magnet student, you do not need to reapply. If you have a sibling, you will need to apply for this student. You need to complete this prior to the deadline to be eligible for sibling priority. The deadline for the applications is February 18 and can be found at our district magnet website: usd259.org/magnet
Absences
Families are doing a great job this year of being at school On Time...Every Day...All Day! It gives us the time with your student needed to help them be as successful as possible. If your student is gone, you need to notify the office, so we can mark the reason. An Absence is 'excused' if it is one of the following: Illness (when you call in ill), Medical (when you provide a Dr. note), Prior Approval (if you sign a form to be gone from school - only 3 Prior Approvals per year). Please help us by contacting the office at 973-8250 everyday your student is absent.
Movie Night
Our 5th grade team and parents are sponsoring a Movie Night on November 22nd. All the proceeds will help our students with their 5th grade field trip. Come on out with your blankets and pillows and enjoy a fun evening with your family.

Please visit with your child’s teacher or go to www.usd259.org/Grading for in depth information, FAQ’s, and to leave your questions or comments. It is a great resource with valuable information!

A big THANK YOU to all of you who participated, volunteered or otherwise contributed to making Goblins on the Go a big success! This was our most successful Fall Fun Run to date; and the warmest! Whether they were running on the course, eating donuts or playing games, it was so fun seeing all of the kids in their costumes.
A big thank you to Mr. Church for emceeing. He kept the mood lively with great music and fun announcements. Thank you to our local Dillon’s at 21st and Amidon for donating clementines so the kids could decorate little “pumpkins.” Thank you to Starbucks at Kellogg and West for donating coffee so all of us adults could keep up with the kids. Finally, a big thank you to all of the fabulous staff at McLean Elementary.
It takes Parents and Teachers working together to pull off an event like this and Goblins on the Go is the McLean Family at its best!
We raised $6,600 for our PTA to be used for our students, staff, and families at McLean to make our school the best it can be. Thanks for all you do to support our students!!
PTA Memberships: If you want to have a say in how PTA raises and spends money, please consider joining. Dues are $5, and you can join at any time. We support Kansas PTA and the National PTA with a large portion of our membership dues; this allows them to lobby our lawmakers on behalf of your children. Our PTA has short term and long term opportunities to support students: you can serve on a committee (such as the Field Day committee) or as a volunteer in or out of school. We are always happy to have new members and volunteers. We are proud to be WildCats at McLean because we exhibit a large amount of parent and community participation.
Skate Night at Carousel Skate Center will be held on November 8th from 6-8pm. Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Class with the highest attendance wins a pizza party! Come out and skate with your friends!
Box Tops are due by November 26th.
THANKS TO ALL THE VOLUNTEERS THAT HELPED WITH PICTURE DAY, PUSIC, FAMILY FUN NIGHT, AND THE FUN RUN!!!
Follow us on Facebook! We will communicate important events, due dates, and urgent volunteer needs. www.facebook.com/McLeanPTA
