Principal's Message
Dear University Elementary Families,
This Monday, Sept. 30th everyone is invited to join me in revisiting our school vision statement. An outside agency has strongly recommended that we tighten up the wording in an attempt to make it easier to remember and repeat. We of course do not want to change the meaning as what we have written is our school philosophy. We are meeting in Room A7 at 3:30pm.
We are also in need of another parent to join our School Site Council. We meet four times a year, on Mondays beginning with Monday, October 7th . This group reviews and provides input for our School Plan for Student Achievement and Comprehensive School Safety Plan. They also help develop our annual school survey and then review the results to determine how we are viewed by our stakeholders and areas for improvement. Please let me know if you are interested in this very vital role.
This year we are joining Sonoma County's Safe Routes to School program. We will have a monthly Walk & Roll to school day. We will have our first Walk & Roll day on Wednesday, Oct. 2nd. On these days students who walk, bike, or scooter to school will be counted and the class with the most walkers/rollers will receive the "Golden Sneaker" for their classroom.
I want to thank everyone for working so hard to recruit pledges for our annual Walk-a-Thon. We raised $17,579.59 and I see that money is still coming in. It is not too late to return Walk-a-Thon envelopes. This is the greatest amount we have raised since we have been a full TK-5th grade school. Our top fundraising students were Ananda from Mr. Moores Class, Tristan from Mr. Kurada's class, Violet Keene, from Ms. Hassur's class, Stevie Ball form Mrs. Barksdale's class and Selena from Ms. Hassur's class. Each of these students brought in $445 and upward toward $600
I would also like to publicly thank Pedro and Sandra Pardo for donating and installing new redwood planks for our garden classroom picnic tables. They are beautiful! I speak for all the students and staff when I say how very grateful we are.
Best regards,
Charlotte Straub - Principal
