The Central Scoop
January 11, 2019
From the Principal's Desk...
Dear Parents,
Happy New Year! It was wonderful greeting all of your children on Monday morning. They were all so eager to return and share stories about winter break.
The weather this winter has been a bit unusual and unpredictable. We have seen all types of weather this week! Now it looks like it might snow this weekend. Please remind your child(ren) to bring the following items if they would like to play in the snow and stay warm during recess this winter:
- Jacket
- Hat
- Gloves
- Snow pants
- Boots
Finally, we look forward to welcoming our new kindergarten students to Central School each year. Starting last year, we moved the kindergarten registration process up to January to give parents earlier notice of whether their child will be assigned to the morning or afternoon session. All children who turn five by September 1, 2019 must be registered, even those enrolled in the District’s Connecting Kids Preschool or with siblings at Central School. Please see below for more important information about our enrollment/registration process that begins next week.
Have wonderful weekend,
- Becky

2019-20 Registration for ALL Kindergarten Students
Registration will take place at each elementary school during the following dates and times in January for parents to come in and register their child(ren). The necessary forms are posted online and can be completed in advance.
- Thursday, January 17th: 9:30 am – 5:00 pm
- Friday, January 18th: 8:00 am – 3:15 pm
Parents need to come in to school to register their child(ren), bringing along an original copy of their child’s birth certificate and two documents that provide proof of residency (details online). 2019-2020 Registration for ALL NEW 1st Grade Students
NEW, Incoming First Grade Students:
We are watching our enrollment numbers for first grade very carefully for the 2019-20 school year. We currently only have three sections of kindergarten this year and we are hoping for four sections of first grade next year. As a result, we are expecting to add one section of classes for next year in first grade, but only if we have enough new enrollments. So if you have a current kindergartener in a private school this year, and you plan to send your child to Central for first grade next year, please contact our secretaries about your intent to enroll and register your child. Please email Cathy O’Reilly at oreillyc@wilmette39.org or Sallie Elman at elmans@wilmette39.org. Thank you!

From the Nurse's Office
Call Central School "Attendance Line" For Absences: 847-512-6150
Please call the Attendance Line to report absences even if you let the classroom teacher know, because some teachers don't see the email/voicemail until later in the day. Teachers assume you are calling the office. It's important that the school nurse is directly aware of any absences otherwise, your son/daughter may be considered "missing." The school nurse keeps track of all school absences in the building. For safety reasons, we want to make sure all of our students are accounted for and safe.
