College & Scholarship Corner
Comcast NBC Universal Scholarship
This is a great local scholarship! Comcast will award multiple scholarship to deserving students. The deadline to apply for this scholarship is December 6, 2019.
Scholarship Requirements:
- Must have a financial need.
- Must be attending a 2 or 4 year college.
- Must have a 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
- Must be able to list all community service and volunteer work.
- Must be known to have outstanding character, integrity and leadership skills.
Let's Celebrate Literacy
November kicks off National Literacy Month.This is a month long celebration that highlights the importance of promoting family literacy programs. Here are a few ways you can promote literacy in your home:
- Make regular visits to the library.
- Set aside time each day for reading.
- Keep books visible around the house.
- Read book versions of your family's favorite movie.
- Encourage your family to start a book club with neighbors, and friends.
- Start a month long family Readathon.

National Young Readers Week
BOOKIT! Since 1984
National Young Readers Week is an annual event created by Pizza Hut in 1984. This program is to raise awareness around the importance of reading nationwide. The mission statement of this program is to increase reading among young adults.
Let's Start Reading
Sora empowers students to discover and enjoy ebooks and audiobooks from their school, for both leisure and class-assigned reading. Students can access Sora through MyHumble, or download the app to any mobile device.
Celebrate American Education Week
What is American Education Week?
American Education Week provides Americans the opportunity to highlight public education, and honor individuals who are making a difference and ensuring every child receives a quality education. This year the emphasis will be on using Social Media to demonstrate your appreciation for educators, and all who work in the public school setting. During this week when you post use the following hashtags #AEW2019, or #WeLoveOurESP: (Education Support Professional).

This is an annual event is always celebrated on the Thursday of American Education Week, this year it is celebrated on November 21, 2019. The day provides schools the opportunity to honor parents, and caregivers. This project highlights the contributions they make in students success.
