GRASP News
December 2018
What did you study in college? I received dual-degrees in Electrical Engineering and Applied Mathematics with a minor in Physics.
What is the best thing GRASP has done for you? The best thing GRASP has done for me is taught and assisted me in applying for financial aid, especially FAFSA, for college. I love the fact that GRASP continuously helps college students in applying for aid every year.
What are you doing now? I taught freshmen (9th graders) the Fundamentals of Mathematics at Henrico High School as a Board Substitute Teacher for a few months while seeking employment as an Electrical Engineer. It was such an honor and a privilege to teach Math at my alma mater. However, the teaching has to come to an end, as I received a job offer as an Electrical Engineer in Maryland. I started my new position on December 3rd, 2018.
What one piece of "educational advice" would you give to high school students? Be open-minded to new ideas you learn. Get back up again and again when you fail because you are more than enough to defeat whatever it is you face.
What is the biggest life challenge you faced relative to your educational path? I would say the language barrier is the biggest challenge I faced. I came to the US as a refugee almost ten years ago with little English and because of that, there were times I just wanted to give up on my education. I had to spend more time than others to understand what I learned, especially in my English class.
