Swansboro High School
Weekly Updates February 23, 2020
Happy Sunday Pirate Families,
It was a wonderful week of learning, athletics and musical performances at Swansboro High School. This past week brought an end to an epic winter sporting season. We have much to celebrate with athletes participating in state championships in wrestling and winter track. Congratulations to River Carroll for winning the 3A Wrestling Championship in the 160! Congratulations also to our basketball teams who had strong performances all season. We are waiting for the basketball playoff schedule and believe our ladies will play on Tuesday.
While athletes were making their mark, our scholars have been busy working hard in all academic areas. A special thank you goes to Coach McFarland and Mrs. Pearson for taking Model United Nations students to participate in the summit at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill this weekend. These real-world experiences abound at Swansboro High School and students are encouraged to explore the multiple opportunities offered through clubs and extracurricular events.
Congratulations to our All-County Honors Chorus students who participated in the county workshop and performance on Saturday. Talented vocalists included Alyssa Oberbeck, Alanna Ulin, Hanaka Miyazaki, Hope Geier and Tianna Wright-Walker. Congratulations also to our Winterguard team who placed 2nd in their competition on Saturday.
Parents of juniors should note that the ACT is on Tuesday, February 25, 2020. To show our junior class love, we will host a snack station at the halfway point of the ACT exam. We need donations of granola bars, fruit snacks or cookies. Please consider donating a box to share with students on Tuesday.
This is a quiet week in athletics, but spring sports will be in full swing the first week of March. The end of the 1st grading period is right around the corner, on March 5, 2020. Encourage students to finish strong with passing grades in all classes.
